After his mother, the Prophet (peace be upon him) was first breastfed by Abu Lahab's slave girl Thubayyah (may Allah be pleased with her). The child in her lap at that time was named Masruh (may Allah be pleased with her). Thubayyah (may Allah be pleased with her) had also breastfed Hazrat Hamza (may Allah be pleased with her) bin Abdul Muttalib before him and Abu Salamah bin Abdul Asad Makhzoomi after him. (Talqih al-Fahoom, p. 4, Mukhtasar al-Sirah, Sheikh Abdullah, p. 13)
✨In Bani Sa'ad:: -
It was the custom of the urban dwellers of Arabia to hand over their children to be breastfed by Bedouin women to keep them away from urban diseases so that their bodies would be strong and their nerves would be strong. Also, they would learn the pure and solid Arabic language from their cradle.
In accordance with this custom, Abdul Muttalib found a breastfed midwife and handed over the Prophet (peace be upon him) to Hazrat Halimah bint Abi Dhu'ib. This was a woman from the tribe of Bani Sa'd bin Bakr. Her husband's name was Harith bin Abdul Uzzi and his surname was Abu Kabsha and he also belonged to the tribe of Bin Sa'd.
The names of Harith's children who were the brothers and sisters of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) through breastfeeding are as follows:
Abdullah, Anisa, Hudhafa or Jadama. Her nickname was Shaima and she became more famous by this name.
She used to breastfeed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Apart from them, Abu Sufyan bin Harith bin Abdul Muttalib, who was the cousin of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), was also his foster brother through Hazrat Halimah (may Allah be pleased with her). Hazrat Hamza (may Allah be pleased with him) bin Abdul Muttalib, the uncle of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), was also given to a woman from Banu Sa'd for breastfeeding. This woman also breastfed him one day when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was with Hazrat Halimah (may Allah be pleased with her). Thus, the Prophet (peace be upon him) and Hazrat Hamza (may Allah be pleased with them) became double foster brothers, one from Thubayyah (may Allah be pleased with her) and the other from the woman of Banu Sa'd. (Zad-e-Ra' 19/1)
During the suckling, Hazrat Halimah (may Allah be pleased with her) witnessed such scenes of the blessings of the Prophet (peace be upon him) that she was completely amazed. The details are narrated by her:
Ibn Ishaq says that Hazrat Halimah (may Allah be pleased with her) used to narrate that she and her husband, taking a small baby of hers, set out in the caravan of some women of Banu Sa'd, outside their city in search of suckling babies. These were the days of famine and the famine had left nothing. I was riding a white donkey of mine and we also had a she-camel. But by God, not a drop of milk came out of it. Meanwhile, the baby was crying so much from hunger that we did not sleep all night....
