HE AROSE! - EASTER FESTIVAL IN NIGERIA

My favorite festival is definitely easter. There's a lot of sentiments to this periods as it's the time I was born and the time Jesus the Christ died. It's a yearly commemoration of what the Christian world recognizes as a great feat achieved somewhere in Golgotha sometime in AD 30.

For starters, our present Julian calendar reads AD 2022.

The festival is celebrated around March/April and commemorates the 'Work of Grace' accomplished by a man who is believed to be no mere man. Having healed tons of sick people, repeatedly exorcised maniacs, forgave sins with miracles confirming, walked on the sea of Galilee at one time, raised up corpses back to life, amongst so many other wonders, this man possessing extra-natural powers was proven to be the one thing he claimed - the son of God (YAHWEH)

Easter marks the time when this man was killed and when He Arose. And yes, he did.

ORIGIN/HISTORY OF EASTER

Around AD 30, the man earlier talked about, popularly known as Jesus the Christ, died. Cause of death - possible asphyxiation, constrained blood circulation and organ failure. He was battered and badly wounded before being forced to drag a cross beam along to a crucifixion point. He was so weak that he collapsed enroute.

His offence by the way was unproven as the then Roman governor that presided over his case declared him innocent. He also found nothing descriptive for the reason of execution that he wrote on the sign (titulus) hung above Jesus' head - Jesus the Nazarene, king of the Jews.

The death of Jesus the Christ meant that I AM (YAHWEH) had an eternal sacrifice offered to him to forgive the sins of man while he's still living. Now, as Jesus himself said before his crucifixion, there are processes to follow to acquire this forgiveness and I can tell you today, it's as simple as ABC.

A - Accept

B - Believe

C - Confess

Okay, so there were also some events leading up to the death of Jesus Christ who by the way rose again on the third Day, and he still lives though not as a man anymore but as an eternal mediator and the second person in the blessed Trinity.

These events includes the Olivet discourse, the triumphant entry, the last supper, the Gethsemane prayer, the betrayal and the judgement.

Today, some of this events are still commemorated in Nigeria just before Easter. Some commemorate the triumphant entry as palm Sunday, forty days after which the death of Jesus is commemorated (always on a Friday and it's called Good Friday). The most popularly commemorated of the events leading up to easter has to be the last supper. This was an express instruction given by Jesus the Christ to his disciples.

HOW I CELEBRATE EASTER

Usually, my christian denomination organized a retreat every easter period. So Easter period is a time when we go to listen to teachings and sermons to understand better what happened at Golgotha and what implications it has on us today. This is true for other Christian denominations in Nigeria

Merriment is at everyone's discretion.

So Easter is basically from the good Friday to the following Monday (easter Monday). Most of these days I'm in church getting blessed. The last easter retreat was a period I would pay to relive. The teachings were timeless and the impact overwhelming.

Generally, easter ends on Sunday but in Nigeria, Monday is given as a public holiday and it's referred to as Easter Monday.

AWARENESS OF THE EASTER FESTIVAL

Everyone who should commemorate it (i.e. Christians in Nigeria) is well aware of it. It's a worldwide celebration just like Xmas. Anyone who doesn't know about easter just may not be conversant with the name rather than the period or the celebration.

Since it's recognized around the world, newer generations are definitely going to be aware of this festival as they come of age.

CONCLUSION

My favorite festival remains Easter. A time when I was born and when my Lord and savior Jesus the Christ died. It's recognized around the world and celebrated around the month of March/April. The festival commemorates the death and resurrection of Jesus the Christ who was crucified for the purpose of saving mankind.

Thanks for reading.

You're welcome. It's my pleasure.

It's also the greatest celebration for me and sometimes it falls on my birthday.

Great article
Easter celebrations for me these days literally revolve around church activities, although I plan to add other little activities to spice up Easter holidays

True. It's a religious celebration so that about sets the venue.

So where and where do you think one can go and spice up the holidays?

I just love the way you hit the nail on the head in this post, Easter is a celebration for the saints and for you to be called a saint you must be born again which simply involves your Acceptance, Belief, and Confession
