Hi friends, hope your weekend was cool; mine was stress free anyway.
Alright, let's talk about contests.
In the past few days of my joining steemit, i have observed by experience and by mentorship and advice from other senior guys, that there are ways of getting noticed easily on steemit amidst the thousands of people in this community.
When i landed on steemit first, i was a kinda confused, not knowing where to go from where i was standing, and i started asking questions. Thanks to @focusnow, you have been a great mentor, @cryptokannon my 2nd mentor, you are doing a great job and @stephenkendal for a firsthand advice, those words meant so much to me, much love from me to you guys.

Lately i introduced a friend @thequill to steemit and the first question i got from him was, and i quote ' there are thousands of authors and blogs on steemit, how can one get noticed easily?'.
I know so many newbies have been asking this question, and others yet to come will still ask same question.
Basically, this blog is going to answer some of those questions, follow me as i take you through the isle.

Firstly in one of my posts, Steemit basics and plagiarism (https://steemit.com/hive-139293/@talktofaith/steemit-basics-and-plagiarism) if you have not visited that blog, just do. Here among other things i spoke on, i also talked about how you can do well easily even as a newbie on steemit by ways of engagement, networking, following, commenting reasonably on other people's post etc.

A second way of getting noticed easily on steemit is by participating in contests.
Contest are daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly or even yearly challenge organised by steemit communities.
In the course of this contest, all eyes are on the contestants.
Curators are on the cases of the contestants.
So many people will get to see your blog and check on your page.
And if you were good enough to emerge as one of the winners, your blog will really trend and so many people will get to know you.
Yes during contest, everyone is after the prize attached to it, but it is another way of getting you to trend even as a newbie.
So it is good enough for you to participate in contests, no matter how small/big or even difficult.
Now where can you find these contests?, don't worry i've got your back covered. From this link here (https://steemit.com/trending/contest), you can always see the trending contests and be able to participate.
Although not all the contests are open to newbies, but you will always see contests that are open for all or for newbies exclusive. Locate these contests, follow the rules and participate, they are healthy for you.
If you are able to do all this plus consistency, you are on your way to the top on steemit.

Thank you for reading through my post.
Much love from @talktofaith.

You made a very solid bad valid point. I remembered when I started 2 years ago, it was through contests that I went to flying start. Here is a summary of some of its benefits as listed or not listed above:

  1. Opportunity to win the price (usually SBD, Steem, or votes)
  2. Network or make new friends.
  3. Make meaningful comments
  4. Get voted on the contest post.
  5. Get followed
  6. Have your blogs visited by fellow participants or the host who wants to learn more about you.

So you see that joining contests is a win win situation.

@focusnow.
Thank you for throwing more light on this post.
Yeah it is definitely a win win thing.

When I first started here, I really had to learn about patience.

After that, it's consistency and engagement that helped me most, and I definitely did take part in a number of contests. The coolest thing about contests (I think) is that you get to know a lot of other users who are pretty much "on the same page" as you.

Wow.
@denmarkguy thank you for sharing your experience to us.
I have heard that impatience has kicked so many people off balance, if you never had patience, i don't think you will be here sharing a word of encouragement.
Thank you for these piece of advice. These words means a lot to me.

@talktofaith, nice write up, read it and, must confess it sort of gave me relief. Am a newbie trying to have a leash on stuffs here, aint easy but, am pulling through. @denmarkguy, read your comment, is cool and kinda reassuring thanx

@thequill
I am glad that this post gave you a relief.
Thanks for commenting
