A bit of stuff

in The Pew4 years ago

I won't lie; It's been a tough week so far. Maybe it's just the "new normal" the government keep talking about or maybe it's because the media sensationalised and overstated the flu-situation which has everyone locked down, losing money and emotional stability...I don't know...

Anyway, all that bullshit aside...I spoke with the cattle farmer, who owns the property I shoot on, a couple days ago and he literally begged me to go to work on his farm as he is overrun with pests, mainly kangaroos. There's close to 80 million of them in Australia, by best guess, and it seems a large proportion of them are on his farm. He wants them gone.

I'm heading up there in a little bit to do some work and as I was gathering my gear I thought I'd do a quick post showing the basic items I take for a night culling.

From the top by rows left to right:

Rifle: Tikka CTR .243 + Little Bastard muzzle brake
Scope: Kahles 624i 6-24x50, SKMR3 reticle in MRAD
Magazines: 2 by 10 round capacity
Bipod: Atlas
Stock: Custom made carbon fibre

Binoculars: Vortex
Rangefinder: Bushnell Elite 1 Mile Conx
Ammunition: 20 rounds shown but I take 50

Knife: Buck. Used for cutting and general utility
Tactical rifle sling: T.A.B Gear (Below ammo pouch)

Light mount: Mounts spot light to my rifle
Note pad and pen: Recording data (weather/shot information (DOPE)
Batteries for rangefinder and weather meter
Shooting bag: SAP - For use when shooting in awkward positions

Head light: LED Lenser
GPS: Garmin (For marking spots for later reference and navigation)
Weather meter: Kestrel Drop (sends data to my ballistics calculator)

Spotlight: Nitecore
Bore snake: This is used to clean out the rifle bore in the field

First aid kit
Rain coat
Rope sling: Used to hook onto an animal and drag it if required

There's other personal stuff like clothing, gloves, hats and the like, plus I always make sure I have some food and water, matches, fire-striker, chem-lights and a few other little bits and pieces.

All of the things you see here, plus those mentioned, end up in my backpack and I carry them around as I move about on foot.

Tonight is a bit of a different scenario though as I have asked a mate to come along and he's bringing his shooting buggy which he transports on a trailer. We'll be rolling in style tonight for sure!

Anyway I better go y'all, gotta make my way to the property and get set up.
