Took a "Coronavirus Break" — Doing Yardwork is Quite Cathartic!

in gratefulvibes4 years ago

I haven't posted in a few days... mostly because I just plain needed a break from the news and the technology.

Let's face it, I think most of us have pretty much hit "maximum density" on Covid-19. You can't get away from it... even when you're quarantined — or under a "shelter in place" order, like we are.

You turn on the computer, all you get is a steady diet of updates. And even if you steer around the updates, most of the ads are related to Covid, in some way.

I'm grateful for the fact that we have a yard, and our stay-at-home order isn't a "stay in the HOUSE" order.

Because it's spring, there's no shortage of things to do outside.

I spent most of the day pulling weeds, mowing, and using the weed whacker on the path of land we used to use for our vegetable garden. We let it go to seed a few years back because our idiot neighbor up the hill decided to use some weed killer to get rid of the thistles along his driveway... which runs right at our property line.

Guess what? Water runs downhill (as in rain) and that poison stuff stays in the ground for a year or more.

In the process, we learned that Himalayan Blackberry and so-called "beggars lice" thrive under pretty much any conditions, no matter how hostile.

Annoying as it might be to have to remove these very invasive plants (the blackberry pretty much "ate" our shed...) it was also a very healing way to get away from all the 24/7 Covid circus. Now I feel suitably sore, having used a set of muscles that don't typically fit into a workout routine!

Hope your weekend has been a good one!

I haven't left home in a month now from the lock down and I find my outside time to be necessary. I've stopped reading national news and only read local because I'm so oversaturated with virus fear mongering. We're had an unusually cold spring so my garden hasn't been started yet. I've been hatching duckling eggs and I think my ducks are the only thing keeping me sane and busy. They are such peaceful little creatures but a lot of work which is nice to have during this downtime.

Yeah, I understand the winter has lingered particularly long in some places... our kids in Ohio say something similar. Glad you have your ducks... I just thing interacting with the "analog" world these days is really important for our mental health.

Stay well!

At this point I would not mind mowing grass and such things. However being that it is going to 23 tonight and highs in the 30's, I think that may be a ways off yet lol.

Wow... you guys really are in the deep freeze this year! I hope you get to thaw out soon...
