NEED FOR BORDERS

The need for borders has existed for ages, and if history is any guide, has always been inextricably related to hostilities. While boundaries in countries today can serve a variety of important purposes, they most frequently serve none.

When two parties gradually come to the conclusion that they are no longer compatible with one another, they establish boundaries, fences, and borders to keep themselves apart and clearly define the range of each party's operations and activities.

Most definitely, since freedom isn't absolute, humans need to know where to begin and end. Contrary to other types of boundaries, borders are very polarising and have significant historical significance—just consider the border between North and South Korea. Due to the natural tendency of people from low and middle income countries to migrate to high income countries in search of better opportunities, national boundaries have also served as a symbol of dominance.

Human Psychology and Borders

National boundaries also have a connection to human psychology. You are aware of how people frequently have an interest in things they have not yet seen or experienced. The idea behind gift-wrapping and blind-folding people to expose information to them later is based on the same curiosity.

So consider national boundaries as a wrap. People are fascinated about what is inside since they are outside. Countries now take advantage of this naturally, closing their borders (also known as border control) to give the impression that they have something highly valuable inside. We tend to be more inquisitive the more difficult a place is to enter (examples include Mexico and the United States of America).

Most people find themselves heartbroken and disappointed when they finally travel to the country of their dreams only to find that there is nothing to look forward to. In some cases, they are forced to return home.

In a Perfect World

An ideal world would be one in which there is equality, in which everyone has a modicum of equal access to everything they need to survive and thrive, in which there is love, peace, and unity, in which everyone knows what is right to do and when it is right to do it, and in which national borders would not be necessary.

You see, boundaries in general and national borders in particular are used to divide the world, and within continents, they are used to divide nations, and within nations, they are used to divide people by their states of origin, and within these states, they are used to divide people based on local governments, clans and villages, and even families. Borders have a dividing nature and a dividing purpose by their very nature.

They indeed serve important administrative goals and objectives, but trust me, there are a hundred and one other ways to carry out the same administrative tasks than a fractious division.

Therefore, in a perfect world, there would be no imbalance or chaos if all the borders were removed and the world map was made to look plain.

Being practical

We depart from a less than ideal world, therefore I must be practical here; nevertheless, being realistic would necessitate questioning my optimism and being honest to myself.

In the world we leave behind, widening borders would result in a major commotion in some high- and middle-income nations because people would inevitably go there.

Consider a well-known city in your nation to get an idea of just how bad this will be. For instance, Port Harcourt, Lagos, and other important cities are located in Nigeria. Cities are remarkably overpopulated compared to towns and villages, which are drained to support city populations.

This type of situation persists, among other things, since people can move freely between states and cities; as a result, people inevitably relocate to cities in search of greener pastures. This condition is not likely to change very soon. resulting in an unbalanced population. Intriguingly, more than half of the world's population lives in cities, and opening up borders would lead to a similar situation in which more than half of people would move to wealthier nations, causing a severe population imbalance that would be disastrous for the imperfect world in which we live.

Therefore, I believe that borders should remain as they are with possible increased border control. However, I continue to consider how those who are imprisoned outside of borders and who suffer only because they desire better lives. Border concerns and border control are inherently contentious, so I'll leave further discussion to the specialists at this point.

The Lesson

In a perfect world, there wouldn't be any borders; nevertheless, in the less-than-perfect world we currently live in, border management is both necessary and hotly contested. I have faith that the perfect world we hope for will soon arrive, but in the interim, I'd prefer to leave border control in the hands of professionals.
