It has been years now and the world is engulfed by economic crisis. This has profound negative impact especially on low income countries. In it all the youths are more affected and the frustration is evident as they turn to do illegal things to survive.

Has My Family Suffered Economic Hardship during Present Economic Crisis?

Everyone is affected by the present economic situation directly or indirectly. For my family, we have been affected indirectly because each time I go to the market, price increase is drastically higher every day.

In past we used to manage 100k in our local currency a month for house expenses. With the present economic situation, our house expenses has gone up to 250k per month. There is literally no item in the market that the price is still stable. Like each week I go to the market, prices of commodities increases every week.

Worst case scenario is as we are in a double crisis situation because despite the economic crisis, Cameroon is engulfed by crisis. In the English speaking regions of the North West and South West regions, everyone is bound to suffer due to the Anglophone crisis. Numerous ghosts towns imposed by non state armed groups has further worsened the situation as during the ghost towns, farmers cannot go to their farms to cultivate. Imagine the impact of a 3 weeks lockdown, staying at home doing nothing.

In the East region of Cameroon, the celekal rebels from the Central Africa Republic. Their activities in this region has also hindered farmers activities and thus high prices of commodities.

In the North, we face constant attacks from the Boko Haram insurgences from Nigeria. This has further worsened the economic situation of Cameroon.

The government is more focused on improving the quality of weapons used by state armed forces to combat Boko Haram, celekal rebels and separatists fighters. This has great negative effects on citizens and the reason why I said we suffered the hardship indirectly due to high costs of goods and services.

What have I done to help or how are we all coping with it?

I am someone that does not give up easily because I know so many people who have given up on life due to the hardship. Some are suffering depression and some go to the entend of committing suicide because they could not stand to face the situation.

I had to be steadfast and said to myself that “i will flourish during hard times”. I had to do more than just one job to be able to meet up with expenses.

I prioritize my spending and do not spend on unnecessary stuff. This helps to keep me on track and I save for my kids.

During this period we believe in God first and not man because we know God is the author and finisher of our lives. Trusting man can be more frustrating at times because I’m some point they began behaving as if without them you cannot breath.

I also cut off unnecessary friends who can only act as distractors and contribute nothing to your growth. Friends that all they know is breath bad energy. I go with those with positive energy because during this moment, positive energy is what we need to be focus.

What adjustments have you and your family made to be able to cope?

We learn to manage our food and do not waste food. Any left overs are kept in the fridge or frozen to be eaten another day. Do not eat and waste food just because you have seen food. Eat because it is necessary to eat and not because you have seen food.

We share responsibility at home because one person cannot carry all the expenses alone. It will be draining if the whole family depends on a single person. Sharing responsibility makes it easier for me and my husband and also help us to better plan.

We also diversified our investments to generate extra income which will help us to cope with the present economic situation.

In summary, economic hardship is a situation and I always believe that there is no situation in life that is permanent unless we make it permanent. The situation should not limit us from trying new opportunities, learning new skills, diversify our investments and trust God, we will all flourish during hard times.

As in the words of C.S. Lewis “Hardships often prepare
ordinary people for an
extraordinary destiny.”

I have come to the end of my presentation and I will invite @saxopedia, @msharif , @solaymann and @wilmer123 to share ideas about the challenge topic.

Hola amiga

Thank you for engaging on my content.

If the government takes good measures, the economic conditions can be improved. If the rates of things are low, then those parents who are there can easily meet the expenses of their children and support the family well. Both are working because work has become so important that if they don't work, the children can't be raised with anything they can't have.

Thank you for the support and of course it is good for parents to share responsibilities during this global economic hardship because it will be more stressful for a single person to carry all the responsibilities alone.

Everyone is affected by the price increase my friend, also in our country. Poverty also increases. But I believe if everyone does hardwork we can still eat atleast 3 times a day. We just need to earn and put hardwork on it so we can budget all the things needed to pay amd buy in our home.

The hardship is further worsened by frequent price hikes of goods and services. The only way out is for households to work together in order to share responsibilities and cope with the rising needs of the family. Thank you for the support.

Greetings,
This economic crisis faced by different countries of the world is something that should be looked into. Imagine going to the market and discover that a particular good is worth doubled it's initial price. This has made some people see this life as a living hell
The question is how will the people of the slums who have little or no earning cope with this current situation? Honestly, it's something that needs thorough reviews and actions. Good luck on your entry.

It is a sad situation no one planned for it to happen the way it is now. Governments are trying their best to remedy the situation. We just pray and hope things get better. Increased employment rate as it will help to improve living standards. As for the increased prices, it will be difficult for the prices to go back to normal prices as previous because business men or women can never reduced the price back to normal.

Yes we should not waste our food because we work for food so we should respect and understand its value. I do same since my childhood. We have to learn adjustment also and teach to our children that in any situation, how can survive. Congratulations that Sc02 voted your post.
