What were the dreams you had in childhood for the future?

Dreams are mandatory to succeed and every one of us has/had one or many dreams. Dreams cater to different aspects of life like career, wealth, lifestyle, livelihood, marriage etc. We usually dream of eveything that others have and we don't have.

As for childhood dreams are concerned, they are usually immature and transient. As the child grows up, he begins to have realistic and mature dreams. As for as career is concerned, our dreams are usually inculcated by our parents. We are made to chase what our parents want us to be. At times our dreams sync with that of those shown by parents and the majority of the time they don't but we have to chase them. This issue of dream inculcation by parents are done in good faith. Parents presume that the immaturity of the kids and poor experience wouldn't let them make correct decisions for themselves. I believe that's true to a great extent.

Let me mention some of my childhood dreams as for my career is concerned. To begin with, when I was in primary school, I wanted to be a driver because of the belief that drivers driving public transport vehicles used to have money and I wanted to have money like them. That was my first immature dream. In the same period, I wanted to be a shopkeeper selling eatables presuming that I would have a variety of things like chocolates and snacks to eat.

As time passed, I joined middle school ( 5th to 8th), and my dream changed to become a Pilot and fly aeroplanes. That was because my father used to stay away from home and travel by air at times. That was a bit more mature dream than earlier ones. But that was even not final. When I joined my high school, I wanted to be a maths teacher because I was good at maths. But I couldn't continue that dream as well.

When I passed class 10 then we need to choose a stream. That's the time when the real dream as for profession is concerned has to be finalised. Usually, students who want to succeed early in life must make a dream and choose a subject accordingly. For example, someone who wants to be an engineer will go into the non-medical stream and those who want to indulge in businesses would choose commerce stream etc. I took a medical as well as a non-medical stream. My primary goal was set to be a doctor but even then my parents suggested to pick maths as the additional subject to secure a position in engineering in case i couldn't qualify for a medical test. As I mentioned earlier, all parents do everything in a good faith and so did my parents even at the final stage. However, it is a secondary question that my interest was in medical science but for parents what matters is that you should have a bright future somehow and you should be financially independent.

In childhood, i had no greed for wealth and had no dreams to gain wealth . But there was a dream of having a beautiful wife and that too an actress doing theatres in our country at that time despite the fact that they were of my mother's age. So that was also an immature dream.

Who supported you in that dreams.

I believe that I am blessed by the best parents as may be believed by all of us. When I appeared for the examination, on the first attempt I qualified for a medical examination but I didn't get a branch of my choice. I got Unani medicine. Dental surgery etc but not MBBS. At the same time, I qualified for multiple engineering examinations but I didn't join any one of them. The good thing is that my parents didn't compel me to join engineering as they knew I wanted to be a doctor. They were always there to boost me up and I appeared in the examination again the next year and got selected for MBBS.

Besides my parents, my brother has always been with me and he used to teach me whenever I used to have any queries or difficulty in understanding any subject. Besides my immediate family, my grandparents were also supportive.

As for my dream of becoming a doctor is concerned, I succeeded in that and I am currently working in the government sector. Although I qualified for the engineering examination but didn't pursue that. It is worth mentioning that qualifying for the engineering examination was much easier than qualifying for the preliminary medical test. The reason to make mention of the qualifying engineering examination is that at that time I realised why my parents were insisting to carry on with a non-medical stream too. Had I not been able to crack or qualify for medical examination, I may have secured my future by joining engineering as was anticipated by my parents beforehand

Which one did you not achieve, What do you think went wrong?

My funny childhood dreams were transient and temporary. Some of my other funny dreams remained unfilled like I wanted to marry beautiful TV actresses who were of my mother's age at that time

However, there is one serious dream that I couldn't achieve. I wanted to pursue my career as a doctor in the USA. I couldn't achieve that dream because of my poor health. My health deteriorated after my MBBS to such an extent that I couldn't pursue my dreams further. As of now, I am financially independent but the pain of not being able to achieve what I wanted to be is deeply aching me.

You won't get a second life to pursue your dreams. When you are capable of doing something but you are not able to do it and that too for some reason which is not in your control, you are bound to get depressed. There was a period in my life when I was taking antidepressant medications to come out of the trauma that my health has caused me. But later I realised that being depressed is not the solution and I counselled myself and came out of depression. Nowadays, I have kept that dream aside and I am satisfied with what I have with me in my life. I don't worry about the things that I don't have or can't achieve.

Conclusion

Goals or dreams act as driving forces to success when chased with sincerity, dedication and deligence. Some childhood dreams are funny, some are immature and some are realistic. After finding realistic and interesting dreams , start chasing your dreams early in life to succeed.
