A Day Etched in My Heart
These day is still fresh in my memory like it was just yesterday. If I close my eye now, I can still see the smiles, and hear our laughter that very day and the sweetness of the food which we shared. Truly, it's one of those days which life can reminds us that joy can be found inside simple gathering.
The whole lovely moment begins after our Christian meeting. The meeting itself was a blessing too because we encourage one another. But the real moment begin immediately after the meeting close. As we step outside, everybody was full of energy, the spirit of unity was flowing among us. I brought out my phone, and that was when we begin to snap pictures. We pose in groups, some form were serious face, others was shining teeth. Those pictures are memory which do remind me that happiness is always inside small things.

After the photo session, food moment join us gather. My mum prepare Afang Soup, full with periwinkle and assorted meat. The aroma alone can make a person to forget him name. Palm wine was surely cool. Cow skin porridge join the lineup, kpomo that was soft and bounce in the mouth. Later, Jollof rice entered the stage, shining, with that smoky taste that make anyone to be proud while eating. As we ate, gist was flowing, and everyone felt at home.

The food didn't just fill up the stomach, it also open way for deeper gist. We shared a conversation about our childhood days, about some journey which some of us had, and how those journeys surely teaches us patience and resilience. With that, one person shared a story of how he travel from Port Harcourt to Aba one month ago, and it was on that his journey that he tasted roasted plantain and groundnut by the roadside. So funny combo.
However I can't just forget how shocked I was to hear this combo because I have never tasted or heard it before. Those stories add up spice to the day, because it remind us that life is full of adventure, even when it's not really perfect.
Back at the compound after the meal, we didn't rush back to the house immediately. We sit down to continue with the conversation. Some talk about school, others talk about work, but the common thing was joy which flow among us. We really enjoy the cool evening.
So in all the thing which makes the day unforgettable was the way everybody were united. No quarrel, and no dull moment. Palm wine still on the table, and the bond that we shared was strong.
If I'm to describe these days like a diary entry, it will be:
"Dear Diary, today is one of those days which life shows me that happiness is not far. So with Afang soup, palm wine, cow skin porridge, and Jollof rice, we enjoyed so well. With pictures, stories, and laughter's, we capture joy that won't fade. Truly, it's a day that will remain on my memory, because it remind me that family and friends is the real treasure which makes life sweet."
It's a day that will forever shine in my heart.
