Tutorial : My Pen Drawing of a Tiger
Hello Steemians!
Today, I am excited to share another artwork from my sketchbook, a pen drawing of a tiger that I recently completed. Wildlife art has always been one of my many art subjects I love because it allows me to study the beauty and power of nature while strengthening my drawing skills. The goal was to capture the animal's fierce gaze, distinctive stripes, and soft fur texture using only line work and shading techniques. In this post, I will walk you through the steps I followed to complete this drawing.
Drawing items
• A4 paper
• Bic pen and
• normal pen
Drawing process
Step 1
I started by lightly sketching the overall shape of the tiger's head. At this stage, I focused on getting the proportions right. I carefully positioned the eyes, nose, ears, and facial structure because these elements determine the overall appearance of the drawing.
Step 2
After that, I then began to add facial features to the tiger's face using my pen.
Step 3
Next I worked on the fur. I slowly added the stripes across the forehead, cheeks, and sides of the face. After completing the stripes, I moved on to the fur details. To create a realistic appearance, I used numerous short strokes that followed the natural direction of the fur. This process was time-consuming but enjoyable.
Step 4
Since I was working with a pen, I relied on hatching and layered strokes to create shadows. Darker areas were built by placing lines closer together, while lighter areas were left with fewer marks. I also added the tiger's paws below the jaw.
Step 5
The final stage involved reviewing the entire drawing and adding small adjustments where needed. I strengthened some shadows, refined a few stripes, and enhanced details around the eyes. These finishing touches helped unify the artwork and gave the tiger a more powerful presence. Below is my final result.

After several hours of careful work, the drawing was finally complete. I was pleased with how the eyes, fur texture, and stripe patterns came together to create a realistic and expressive tiger portrait. Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog and follow my step-by-step process. I hope you enjoyed my drawing, and until my next artwork, stay creative and keep practising!
