I am a Kid

in Steem Kids & Parents2 months ago (edited)

We tend to forget ourselves once we start playing the role of a parent. Our whole being pivots around kids, sometimes knowingly but mostly subconsciously.

I was initially writing this post in WoX but when I realized that this time I'm writing as a kid and not as a parent, I was tempted to switch to Steem Kids & Parents. It sounds silly but I felt giddy for a brief moment as I wrote the title.

So, my parents were in the town. Hence, my short disappearance which I'm sure nobody noticed because I couldn't resist commenting on some interesting posts.

My parents usually stay for a day or two but this time they stayed for 4 days which meant I got to play "the kid" role after an eternity. My dad and brother took charge of keeping my kids entertained and I let my mom cook for me. 😆

Since Ramadan is around the corner, I needed some condiments which become a staple in that month. I took advantage and asked my mom for help to which she happily agreed.

It doesn't count as a kid-thing but I went grocery shopping with my mom. Years ago, when I was actually a kid, I hated accompanying my mom to the utility stores. The only stores of attraction for me were - books and computers. I always wanted to buy a new book or a new PC game. But this time, I had fun grabbing discounted cans of cooking oil and washing powder with my mom.

How time changes...

The next day, we managed to pull off a one-day road trip to attend a wedding in another city. Although, we came back home completely drained after midnight, it was still an exciting day in general. I got to meet my school friends for the first time since I got married.

The next day was dedicated to meat shopping which my dad wanted to do by himself. So I accompanied him to the meat shop because he didn't the know directions. He chose the best pieces for the barbecue which we planned to have that night. We have had countless barbecues since I last posted about the one with the soulfuldreamer.

The one with family was great in its own unique way. My husband prepared the skewers and my father tended them. My brother and eldest son made us suffer with something they called music. The rest of us took pictures and did some moon-gazing.

On the last day, I took my mom to a spring festival which looked more like a cultural festival. We enjoyed a lot apart from the blazing hot sun which was giving summer vibes. The food and arrangements were impeccable - of which dear soulfuldreamer was a part.

I just sent off my parents. The home feels empty, but all in all, it was a memorable long weekend.

Although a little haphazard, but I equally enjoyed writing about the events. I wish to see such posts from other adult Steemians. We could use #iamakid tag for such stories (just a thought). We don't get much time to bond with them, but whenever we do, it deserves to be preserved in the form of words or media to have something vivid to cherish for, years later.

Greetings ma'
🥰 wow I really enjoyed reading your post, I'm just imagining how fun it was spending a weekend with your Loved ones, and doing somethings you didn't like doing when you were still a kid.

It was a great weekend in terms of bonding. There are things that we take for granted in childhood. When they become rare, only then we realize their importance.

Greetings ma'
👍You are definitely right ma' we don't know the value of what we have until they are no more.

I want to play "kid" with my parents now :(

Lovely read.
I could see you were having fun of your life with your mom at the spring festival.

I wished for a moment, I could steal your mom 😉 for an hour or two. She is such a pleasant vibe.
