I can't agree more with you, being a bilingual comes with uncountable advantages, polyglots are creative, fast thinkers and problem solver.

I've always felt it was a sign of respect for the host country to learn at least a few basic terms and phrases in the local language.

You're not far from the truth, it always shows that you care for the people and they will on return draw closer to you. You're making a whole lot of sense and I appreciate your entry!
