A Very Short Story titled: "Honesty Is The Best Policy"

Once upon a time, there lived a poor woodcutter by name Raymond. Mr. Raymond lived in a small hut on the outskirts of the village. They were other woodcutters living in the same village and neighbouring villages. Some wood cutters always complained to the village head that their woods were missing. To know whom the thief was, the village head sends some boy to disguise themselves as thieves and go into the forest and collect axes from the wood cutters. Almost all the woodcutters ran to the village head to report the case. Few days later, the king sent for all the woodcutters in the village, claiming that the thieves has been caught and that thier axes has been discovered.

The king mixed gold, silver and iron axes together. He called on to the woodcutters to come and pick their axes. Some of them rush to pick the gold axes while some rush to pick the silver axes. But Mr. Raymond went straight to his iron axe and pick it.
After all of them must have finished picking the axes, the king now asked them that they should check well to see if the axes the picked really belongs to them. They all claimed that, it was thiers. The king then asked the guards to take all the gold and silver axes from them and then revealed the secret to them. He arrested all of them for their dishonest act and told them that he has seen who has been stealing other people's wood from the forest. Raymond who choosed his iron axes without going for what was not his was made the head of woodcutters and was also given a beautiful house to live in. He left his hut in the outskirts of the village and was living in a beautiful and furnished house because of his honesty.

Two gold and silver axes were also given to him as his reward for being honest.

Moral lessons:

  • No matter our conditions, we should learn to be at all time and in every situation.
  • Dishonest gain do not last longer.
  • Honesty is a virtue that we should value and nurture.
