FACULTY WEEK SNOOKER AND SWIMMING COMPETITION😁
If you’ve been following my posts lately you go know say I’ve been talking about our faculty dinner night 😂 I’m part of the executives and it’s holding tomorrow, Friday. But today was also big because it’s the last activity for our lecture free week. We had swimming competition and snooker competition back to back, and ahh it was a whole vibe.
Students started coming in by 3PM. The plan was to start early but then rain just came out of nowhere 😂 Fair rain scattered everything. Because of that we couldn’t start swimming on time. Everybody was just outside, some under the shelter, some just gist. The organizers kept saying “wait small, wait small” and eventually we just said let’s start with what we can do.
So while we were waiting for the rain to stop, they brought out the snooker board. And that thing carried us for hours 😂 People were playing seriously, some were just there to cruise and collect cruise. You know how snooker is in school — noise everywhere, people shouting “aim am well”, “you miss am”. It was actually the highlight of the afternoon because everybody was involved. Even people that don’t play were cheering.
By evening, around 3PM, the rain had reduced and they said okay let’s go to the pool. That’s when the swimming competition started. It was interdepartment, so every department brought their swimmers. The energy was different. People were screaming department slogans, banging bottles, drumming. You’d think it was a final match 😂 The pool area was full.
They did it in two rounds. First was interdepartment, so departments faced each other. Then after that they did another round within each department to pick who was really the best swimmer. So it wasn’t just about winning for your department, you also had bragging rights inside your own department 😂 People were diving, some were just managing to cross, it was funny and serious at the same time.
At the end of everything, they ranked the departments. The winning department got crowned as the winner of the swimming competition for the 7th Republic FISSA FESA Student Week. Everybody was clapping, some were hailing their department, some were just happy it’s over 😂 It was competitive but it didn’t feel toxic. Just pure fun.
So that was today. Snooker in the afternoon, swimming in the evening, rain trying to spoil it but we still made it work. And tomorrow is the dinner night which I’m also part of as an executive. Lecture free week ends on a high note. If you see me tomorrow, just know I’ll be running around with tie and stress 😂
