The Dairy Game 23/04/24 || Witnessing the birthing of two new goats and tending for our latest mother goats.

Just the night preceding this day, one of our two waiting mother goats dropped... But wait a minute, were they actually the ones waiting or we their care givers...lols. Trust me we have been expecting them to give birth as we've seen the tell tale signs already. One dropped while I was away from the farm, our security guard gave me the gist the following day.

I was so glad on seeing the mother and the kids, they look so healthy and strong, even the kids look so big for their age, only few folks would believe they are just a day old, mere looking at them. I wondered how the mother was able to nurture them after it dropped them because it rained cat and dog that night.
God is just so great, they were kept till the following day when I came and saw them.

The interesting part happened moments after I celebrated the new kids from the first goat. I was all alone in the farm when I started hearing a strange sound from the goat pen. It's just unlike the way our goat bleat. I rushed down and found out that the second pregnant goat was in labour. Wao it was such a sight to behold.

I had so much compassion on the goat as it let out a fainting sound in pain. As at this point the baby was already at the anus about to say hello to a new world its was unfamiliar with. One thing I love our goat for is that they deliver themselves without assistance. I've seen them dropped in this manner even with youngest of she goats, birthing for the time.

The first kid dropped before my very eyes, clothed in what looks like mucus. I was right there looking at the mother which immediately started licking off the mucus on the kid that dropped. I learnt that the mother derives satisfaction from that thing it licks off the kids and moreso it allow the kid get good ventilation and breath well.

At this point I was expectant hoping it won't be the end, I was expecting two not one. I was distracted for a moment as a neighbor of mine at the farm needed my immediate attention and just before I arrived in less than 5 minutes, the other kid had dropped. I could not but give thanks for the successful delivery of the two kids.

The same thing was repeated for the second kid, as it began to lick up the mucus on it to ensure they are properly cleaned up. It was in that same moment that those kid attempted to stand up and locate their mother's udder for milk, and a question popped up in my mind...who taught them? Some things are just learnt naturally, this is actually how God designed it.

After a while, I went into the goat pen to go have a feel of the kids. They indeed look healthy and strong and equally big for their age. I just thank God for the addition. My boss also came around saw how healthy and strong they look, and the colour the kids came with, he couldn't hide his excitement. He actually loves white, white with less patches.

I guess the other goats in the pen also felt the atmosphere changed as 4 more kids have been added to their number. They celebrated as I gave them their favourite cassava peel which I gave them occasionally as snacks. They majorly feed on leaves but yesterday,I think they had enough cassava peel to commemorate the special celebration.

I basked in this happiness till the day was over. I also got an alert from my boss which made me motivated through the day. A double blessing for the day.
