Hello, my amazing dear Steemians, how are you all doing? Today I want to talk about a health condition that has affected millions of women all over the world, which is polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
PCOS is a hormonal condition that causes symptoms like weight gain, acne, hair growth in the cheek area, irregular periods and fertility problems.
Many women struggle quietly without knowing that their symptoms could be because of this health condition.
Common signs to watch out for with PCOS |
|---|
These are the common signs to look out for when it comes to PCOS:
- Sudden weight gain
- Belly fat
- Unwanted hair growth on the face, chest or other parts of the body
- Sweet tooth: always craving sweet things
- Irregular periods or no periods at all
- Mood swings or being depressed
- Fatigue
- Dark patches of skin around the underarms, neck or groin
- Fertility issues
- Acne that's hard to treat
If you ever notice any of these signs I listed above, do not hesitate to consult a medical professional for a solution.
The importance of early diagnosis of PCOS |
|---|
Early diagnosis of PCOS is very important because it helps you to know what's going on in your body and how to take action before it becomes worse.
Many women have lived with PCOS without knowing because they didn't get enough information they need, in order to know what's going on in their body, and they think the symptoms that they are seeing are normal and just ignore them.
If PCOS is not detected early, it can cause bigger health issues like high blood pressure, diabetes, infertility, heart disease and even depression.
Knowing you have PCOS early is going to give you a chance to start making some changes in your lifestyle, and to be able to manage it before it becomes worse.
The earlier you know what's going on in your system, the better you are able to live healthy and have peace of mind.
How to Manage PCOS |
|---|
Managing PCOS is not something that you fix within a snap of a finger. it's about you making a long-term lifestyle change that is going to support your body and help with the symptoms.
Since there is no permanent cure for PCOS yet, it can be managed as long as you follow the right steps:
Eat balanced and healthy meals: eating healthy really helps in managing PCOS. Eat more proteins, vegetables, and healthy fats. Stop eating sugary foods and processed snacks, because eating them will make the symptoms get worse.
Exercise regularly: you don't have to do heavy exercise just simple workouts like walking, dancing, and stretching go a long way. Exercise can help to control your weight and helps with your mood too.
Have enough sleep: try to sleep for 7-8 hours daily having poor sleep can disrupt your hormones and make you start having symptoms like mood swings and fatigue.
Be careful with how you stress yourself: Always find time to rest, stress can make your hormones worse.
Take supplements if recommended: Most times the doctors do recommend some supplements to support the hormones, but always consult your doctor before using any supplements.
Drink enough water: drinking enough water daily will help to get rid of unwanted toxins in the body.
Visit your doctor when needed: don't be scared to visit your doctor. PCOS is a medical condition that really needs help, but with the right rules to follow, it becomes easy to manage.
Managing PCOS is a journey itself be kind and love yourself. Make sure you follow all the rules and regulations regarding PCOS, you will definitely be fine.
