In today's class we will learn the topic Squares of numbers

Squares of number

Square of number is the value we get when we multiply a number by itself.
For example
5 × 5 = 25
4 × 4 = 16
From the above examples, 25 and 16 are square numbers because they were gotten from multiplying 5 and 4 by themselves.
Square is representation by a tiny digit above a number. Example: 3 ² , The tiny two above the 3 shows that the number 3 is to be doubled or multiplied by itself to get a square number.

Square numbers between 1-100

The box above contains square numbers that are between the range of 1-100.

Example 1

Let's say we are asked to find the square of the following numbers:
(a). 50
(b). 20

Solution

a). Multiply 50 by itself
50² = 50 × 50 = 2500
This means that the square of 50 is 2500 because we multiplied 50 by itself to 2500 which is the square number

b). Multiply 20 by itself
20² = 20 × 20 = 400
the square of 20 is 400 because we multiplied 20 by itself to 400 which is the square number

Example 2

Find the square of the following

Steps to find the solution:

• Raise both the denominator and numerator by the square of 2.
  Example:

5²/2².

• Multiply the numerator by itself and also the denominator by itself to get the values. The value you get will be the square numbers

Find the value of the following number:

1. 7² + 4 ²

2. 14²-10²

Step to solve the problem
Simplify the numbers raised to the square/power of two.

• Add the first number to the second. Example is shown below:

Solution 1

7² + 4 ²

= (7 × 7) + (4 × 4)
= 49 + 16 = 65

Solution 2

14²-10²

(14 × 14) - (10 × 10)
= 196 - 100 = 96
