"Weekly Contest 50 || The Diary Game || Celebrating New Year with My In-Law (01/01/2026

Hi guys!

It's your favourite writer, @okokon. Happy new year from me to you. I haven't heard from you since 2025. 😀😀😀. I'm proud to make my first post here in this community. Let me specially thank @m-fdo for organising this contest so I could have the platform to tell you how I enjoyed new year yesterday. Stay with me, let me take you on a ride.

My activities for the day began immediately I woke up by 5.30 am. I had to wake up this time because I knew I had a lot of engagements to involve in. After my morning prayers, I started preparation to attend morning church blessings in my church. Every first day of a new month sees us in God's presence, dedicating that new month to the Almighty for His protection. My family and I were among those in the church. We went to thank God for a new year.

When we returned from the church by 10 am, we stopped at the road market to buy some ingredients we would need to prepare breakfast and lunch. I waited for my wife to purchase meat while I took some pictures for steemit. She bought two pound weights of meat that cost about Four Thousand Naira (N4,000) in my currency, equivalent to 15 steems. I love fresh tomatoes. I told my wife to buy tomatoes for me so I could eat them raw. Four balls of fresh tomatoes cost N1000, which is equivalent to 3 Steems.

When we got home, my wife had to prepare breakfast (rice and stew), while I helped to clean the house and made it look fresh for the new year. By 1pm, we were through. I went to get my clothes from the drycleaner. I had prepared to spend this new year with my father and mother-in-law. After eating, my family and left for my in-law's place.

We arrived there by 2 pm. I was so excited to meet not just my father and mother-law, but my brother and sisters-in-law as well. They all came with their families. It was a huge family reunion. They were happy to meet one another too, after donkey years of parting. Some of them stay far apart.

Meeting them, was like meeting my biological family. They are like my siblings as well. Different types of food were cooked : rice and stew, pounded yam with white soup, Afang Soup with different assorted drinks. It was like a celebration.

My father-in-law gathered all his family together, including his sons-in-law to give some pieces of advice. The meeting went into peace settlement between two of his children who had been at arm's length for sometimes now. It was a solemn moment. Time was far spent till 8pm. At last, peace was achieved. As a pastor, he requested that I prayed for his family. I did just that. Before I left, I gave them a token of what I bought for them. They were so happy.

We came back home late in the night. I didn't see taxi cab drivers at that time of the night since many of them had traveled home to meet with their families. So a few that were available weren't enough for passengers. Finally, I came back home with my family. I went into bathroom to refresh myself and then went to bed and slept off.

That was how my day was. It was replete with happy moments that would remain evergreen in my memory. Thank you for reading my post. Have a nice moment
