How can we select a children's program for children?

Today it is no secret to any of us that the children of this era are the digital natives. The cause of this is because, in our society, the protagonist of almost everything we do in everyday life is technology and, this drives them to want to live connected to the Internet or a screen seen that, the greatest fun is achieved in those devices.

Due to the high presence of technology in our daily lives, it has been difficult for parents to keep the smallest of the house away from these electronic devices. Now, before continuing with the development of this publication I want to specify that despite not having children, I have been monitoring this situation to contribute to a strategy that may be useful for parents and, today I will give you this alternative.

Beyond focusing on how harmful technological devices are for children, we will see the benefits that a prudential period in contact with them can bring several benefits and for this, it is crucial to properly select the children's programming that children will enjoy. First of all, let's keep in mind that all the contents of audiovisual origin to which the children are exposed, directly impact their minds. This is because they are created with a mold and structure that will instantly connect with brain connections and at the same time, with the human sensory procedure.

An audiovisual programming is designed to impart and at the same time reinforce the attitudes, values and of course, the behavior of children, therefore, they are a perfect target for negative or positive influence and it is starting from this premise where, parents or adults in general have the task of knowing the importance of properly selecting a children's programming.

It has been repeatedly said that technological devices are not a recommended tool for the smallest of the house. However, almost everyone has instant access to these computers. And, adults are the main figure they see using for a long time prolonging this technology and with the intention of calming or entertaining a child, the first thing that is done is to give him a device to entertain himself.

A peculiarity that we should not leave aside is that digital natives are experts in these tools from a very young age since they easily have ease and development when they are manipulating them. Moreover, there are cases in which they are the ones who teach us how to use some devices and when we ask them where they learned, their answer is usually even more surprising because, some say seeing the equipment when, we had to read an instruction manual in the past tense to be able to operate a high-tech device.

Although it is okay for a child to operate a device and develop their skills as they use it, there are certain parameters that we should not leave aside because, any exposure they may have with multimedia content is not beneficial.

There are programming that beyond guiding them, what they do is confuse them and this happens even in children's themes for this reason, the recommendation is that before they see that programming, an adult does it and based on this, see if it is really an educational content that contributes good things for the general development of the child.

Another indispensable aspect that must be taken into account is that it is recommended that children under 2 years of age are not exposed to a technological screen and, this theory has been highlighted by several specialists in child development. The cause of this is related to the fact that the brain of a little one who starts his life, is not yet very well developed, therefore, if they are exposed to these devices, neuronal connectivity will be affected. In view of this, the ideal is that these infants enjoy their moment interacting with elements of real life, that is, manipulating objects and seeing movements of people who are close to them.

Arriving more deeply from the age, there are several alternatives to add some entertainment of audiovisual origin in your day to day however, the ideal is that it is limited. A daily hour of access to these technological devices is enough for children 5 years and older and without removing the fun theme, if the programming is educational and quality, the benefit will be better.

There are several children's programs that are characterized by being addictive for children. Specifically those that hypnotize them and generate that they want to spend hours staring at the screen and, the cause of this is because the hyperstimulation effect is developing.

Speaking in audiovisual terms, this happens when the scenes are designed to develop in a short time and thanks to the sudden changes of sounds, visual planes and lights, they are usually very striking for children. The creators of these programs make use of these resources not because they want to harm the little ones but, if they do it for commercial purposes and as they already know that this formula works for them, they continue to execute it therefore, it is here where parents have to act managing the time that children will have during the exhibition because although the intention is not to harm, Unfortunately their cognitive abilities do end up being affected.

In the same way, it is necessary to analyze very well the language that the children's programs that children are watching and the values they transmit. I consider it key that these contents that they are going to see, must transmit values that are universally accepted, among which honesty, importance of family, respect, solidarity, effort and empathy stand out.

In addition to the above, programming is also ideal that invites children to reflect on their actions and the various things in life since, these qualities will instruct them to how they can face certain circumstances of everyday life.

It should be noted that it is also an excellent alternative that when children are watching a program, an adult is accompanying them. In this way, you can start a dialogue of what you are observing in the programming and if there is something that they do not understand, immediately proceed to guide them, you can also ask them what they thought or what they think of what they are watching and when the programming ends, ask them to reflect on what they are seeing because, This would help them develop critical thinking.

The aforementioned technique not only contributes to the strengthening of ties between parents and their children, it also becomes a very enriching and visionary experience where the educational and family context have the leading role of the moment. Similarly, it is also a way to evaluate the behavior or attitude that children have when they see a program.

In conclusion, if children enjoy healthy and educational programming, their emotional and brain development will be safe, therefore, I invite you to evaluate the audiovisual content that your children are watching since this is decisive for their lives.
