Children and adolescents during their first years of life often have contact with bullying; either because they receive it or because they are the ones who are exercising it and thanks to the fact that it is increasingly presented, since 2010 it is one of the psychological topics that are most studied.

Bullying has always existed however, since the aforementioned year is that it has been given higher priority when studying the origin of bullying with the intention of promoting that the environment in educational institutions practices tolerance and respect since, it is not correct that children develop in a violent environment during their academic cycle.

Now, as we know how complicated it is to eradicate bullying 100%, we must value the effort that psychologists, educational psychologists and parents have been making because, facing this situation where children are in the process of creating and developing their personality, is not as simple as we would like it to be seen that, bullying ends up affecting the families of the bully or victim, The school and society itself because, at the end of the day we are all victimizers of this situation.

Let's analyze this situation in detail. When a child or adolescent is a victim of bullying, he feels that all the people who are part of his environment are different with him and as a result of this, his day to day passes with feelings of loneliness.

At this point, we must bear in mind that bullying is closely with the deterioration of self-esteem for this reason, it directly interferes with the mental health of the affected. In addition to this, insecurity and distrust in them develops, thus causing them to be complicated to socialize with people.

Bullying also promotes disorders such as anxiety and depression noting that, according to recent studies, suicidal behavior in children aged between 7 and 17 years is caused by the bullying they are experiencing as well as, eating behavior is also affected in these children harassed by people of their age or failing that, of teachers who work in the institution where they study. One aspect that we cannot leave aside is that a harassed minor feels helpless and desolate.

A common mistake that I have noticed about bullying is that, most of the time they only focus on the victim, leaving aside the harasser however, I consider that this should not be so because, the aggressor is also facing a conflictive psychological situation which directly affects their mental health since, most likely, they are surrounded by people who do not transmit learning, stimuli and above all, adequate values.

Let's visualize this situation in more depth so that we continue to understand the sensitivity of the problem. At the moment that bullying begins, the chain of conflicts generates a spiral of violence where the harasser and perpetrator are protagonists and both require attention because they are not well mentally speaking. Because of all these situations, I'm going to detail the DNA of mental health in a bully:

  • His empathy is impaired and to cover the pain, he chooses to attack someone he considers "Weak".
  • He only has social skills with people who are also aggressive and enjoy practicing bullying.
  • When not attacking, he develops symptoms of anxiety and bipolarity.
    It imposes antisocial behavior.
  • 85% of the time, the bully in the past tense was a victim of bullying and in that way, takes revenge for what was done to him.
  • He doesn't show his emotions.

It should be noted that, when understanding this DNA, we have very important keys when we are going to analyze the impact that bullying has on the mental health of our children and adolescents since, if we corroborate which one is applied in a bully, we have the opportunity to help him heal the disorder he has causing so, The violence begins to be stopped in time. Remember that, step by step, we can achieve solutions to great evils and stand idly by as spectators, should never be an option because, bullying is not a game of children or adolescents.

In summary, to begin with our contribution to stop bullying, once we see that someone is being bullied, let's take action on the bully and bully because, both require specialized help. It does not matter if we are assuming the role of spectator, relative, acquaintance, friend or teacher, we will act because, bullying is not children's games and it is not part of a culture.

Have a Nice Day !!!
