Like always before the bell rang so loud, too suddenly splitting the morning into before and after.

Before the school Bell rang the whole school buzzed with possibility. Sneakers squeaked across floors. Some students laughed so hard over something that was not funny.

Immediately, after the bell, students had to choose. Mary chose the second seat in her classroom. Not invisible, but not exposed either. Mrs. Rachel was already in the class writing notes on the board

“Who you are becoming is shaped by what you practice every day.”

Mary rushed inside, sat down, and began copying the note, even though she wasn't sure she believed it. If that were true, she was becoming someone very good at worrying in life. Mary worried so much about the maths quiz period. She worried about whether Lilian was still mad at her over what happened the previous day. She worried that her voice shook whenever she spoke out.

First and second periods passed. John's experiment fizzed over the beaker and everyone in the classroom jumped back, before dissolving into serious laughter. Even his teacher later laughed at him.

During lunch hour, the cafeteria roared like a stadium. Mary spotted Lilian at their usual table. There was a half-second pause long enough for them to replay their game of yesterday but then Lilian scooted over and said, "You're late. We have saved you the good fries".

At that moment, the maths teacher arrive and Mary got scared and worried about the maths quiz. She became restless and left the cafeteria for the classroom without finishing her meal.
