The Responsibility of an Elder Sister

Being an elder sister in an African home is not easy especially when there is gao between you and your siblings. An elder sister plays a very powerful role in the family.

Like in my own family, where I am the elder sister at home, I have become a guide, a protector, and sometimes I do act as the second mother in the house in the absence of my mother.

My responsibilities at home begin naturally as my siblings look up to me for comfort, direction, and example. As an elder sister in the house, my responsibilities include acting as a role model.

My siblings tend to copy what they see from me. The way I speak, behave, and treat others shapes character of my younger siblings. What I usually do is show discipline, kindness, and respect to teach my younger ones important life values.

I also, played the role of a helper and supporter in my family. Most at time I do assist my younger siblings in doing their homework, helping them with chores, and listening to their worries to bring reassurance to them. I ensure my younger siblings are protected both at home and outside.

Beyond my duties as an elder sister at home, as an elder sister, I createemotional warmth in my family. I have become friends who laugh, share memories, and build bonds that last a lifetime with my younger siblings.
