*Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time* is a beat 'em-up arcade video game produced by Konami of Japan and released in 1991. It was a sequel to the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game based mainly on the 1987 animated series featuring the titular characters. It was ported to the Super Nintendo/Super Famicom [in 1992](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teenage_Mutant_Ninja_Turtles:_Turtles_in_Time#Reception) continuing the numbering from the earlier Ninja Turtles games released on the NES/Famicom. I think this is the better Ninja Turtles game than *[Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist](https://ecency.com/hive-140217/@darthnava/my-played-video-games-review-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-the-hyperstone-heist-for-the-sega-genesis)* on the Sega Genesis which I posted a review of before.

The Story

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are sent back in time by their arch-nemesis, Shredder, and have to fight their way back to the present to get back the Statue of Liberty which was stolen by Shredder's ally, Super Krang.

The Graphics and Sound

The graphics are quite good. The environments have a fine amount of detail, as do the turtles and their enemies. The animation of all the different attacks in this game was surprisingly good. There are cool features like being able to throw enemies into the screen and interactive backgrounds. The music is sometimes happy or intense, With city-type tunes, it fits in more than well to the level and makes the experience better. The sounds were not all that good, especially when you look at them right next to the music. There is some very minor voice acting from the turtles, and they were their classic catchphrases like “Cowabunga!” and “Pizza Time!” Unfortunately, they sounded horrible. Other sounds were just little power-up sounds and mediocre-sounding explosions.

The Gameplay

The gameplay here is good. You can pick from the 4 Ninja Turtles, there is not much of a difference between them, only that their special attacks are different. You have 3 buttons to use. One to jump, then one to attack, and your special move which takes a little life from you when you use it. A simple system that works. You fight Shredder and his Foot clan, in all types of different scenarios. It is a great game for 2 players as well. It has just the right amount of difficulty too. There are 10 or 11 levels to play. They are long though and enjoyable. Replay value is great. You and a friend can play it again always. This is a game that is timeless.

My Verdict

*Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time* is good for the younger audience because it is not hard to figure it out. Though it is also good for older gamers because it is good fun. I totally recommend this game if you are looking for a nice 2 player game with lots of action.

Play it on the Super Nintendo/Super Famicom or play it on a great emulator. Play it with a friend

Let's keep on gaming in the free world!
