My Played Video Games Review: World Heroes for the Super Nintendo

World Heroes is a fighting arcade game developed and published by Alpha Denshi (later known as ADK) with the development assistance of SNK of Japan. It was initially released for the Neo Geo MVS arcade cabinet in 1992. It was first ported by Sunsoft to the Super Nintendo/Super Famicom in 1993.

This was a nice fighting game to play during the early 1990s if you got kind of confused over Street Fighter II's six-button setup. It only uses four buttons and the special moves are easy to pull off.

The Graphics and Sound

The graphics in this game are of good quality. While they are not as advanced as the Arcade version, the characters are large and vibrant, and the stages are visually appealing. The special moves may not have as much graphical detail, but they are still impressive to watch. The developers did a great job in transferring the game to this platform because this game maintains the original feel and does not suffer from any issues or problems.

The music in this game is unmemorable and consists of repetitive, uninteresting tunes. The sound effects and voices are also muffled and lack the clarity found in most other SNES games. I feel that the devs could have put more effort into improving the audio in this game.

The Gameplay

The characters in World Heroes seem to have been heavily inspired by those in Street Fighter 2, not just in their appearance but also in the way they play.

The gameplay itself is enjoyable but not particularly innovative. It features one-on-one fighting with 50-hit combos, chain moves, and special moves. Each character has between two and three special moves, which was the standard at the time but may seem limited by today's standards. There are two match types available: Normal, which is a standard one-on-one fight on a non-interactive background, and Fatal Match, which takes place in an arena with hazards such as spiked walls or oil on the floor. These hazards add a bit of variety to the game but are not particularly noteworthy.

The controls in this game are not as precise as those in Street Fighter 2 or Mortal Kombat 2 on the SNES, but they are still fairly effective. The control scheme is straightforward, with buttons for punch, kick, and throw. Quick, weak attacks can be executed by tapping the punch or kick buttons, while holding them down will result in slower, stronger attacks. If you prefer a different control setup, this SNES version allows you to switch to a more precise four-button configuration, which improves the replay value compared to the arcade version.

My Verdict

Overall, World Heroes on the SNES is a solid fighting game that is suitable for players who are not highly skilled at fighting games or are new to the genre. It may not be revolutionary, but it is enjoyable to play. The SNES version of the game is a close translation of the Neo Geo arcade original.

Play it on the Super Nintendo/Super Famicom or play it on a nice emulator. Play versus battles with a friend.

Let's keep on gaming in the free world!
