Royal Bengal Tiger |
---|
The Royal Bengal Tiger is a pride of our country Bangladesh. This animal is our country's national animal. Sundarbans biggest mangrove forest in the world. This forest is an integral part of BD's natural resources. These tigers mostly native in the Sundarbans area. This tigers is one of the strongest and large tigers in the world. Sundarbans once had nearly a thousand tigers. But its numbers have fallen because of deforestation, human activities and illegal hunting.
Research and news info indicates that there are only 114 to 130 tigers still left in the Sundarbans. The figure proof that the number tigers are in danger of dying out. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)- organizations lists this tiger species as endangered. If we don't do something right now they could be lost forever.
What causes habitat and environmental changes so that this animal is threatened with extinction or why this animal has become a typical animal of BD.
The Royal Bengal Tiger of Bangladesh is in danger zone for many reasons.
The first is that the Sundarbans mangrove forest lost It's area day by day. Trees are being cut down for farming, new industries, and making new places to live. They are destroying tiger’s home and cut down their living space.

Second, illegal hunting is big problem. Internationally, parts of tiger skin, teeth, bones, etc have high prices. This leads to more poaching. Some local villagers kill tigers to protect themselves.
Now, third, the Sundarbans are being affected badly by climate change. Cyclones, storm, floods, etc. are becoming natural disasters. But the water is also becoming saltier, and that is making the food tigers feed on more rare. It is a disadvantage for tigers to live and reproduce.
The Royal Bengal Tiger is not a normal animal. It is the symbol for the strength, courage and pride of Bangladesh. The number of tiger in Sundarbans is very important to maintain the best the ecosystem in Sundarbans. A forest ecosystem will collapse without the tigers being there.

To protect tigers, the government of Bangladesh has taken important steps. It is an offence punishable under Wildlife Conservation Act, 2012 to hunt, harm and kill tigers. If anyone does break the law, it's 2 to 7 years in prison and a big fine.
The Sundarbans are also a World Heritage Site listed by UNESCO to allow protection of the area and to advertise internationally.
The Bangladesh Forest Department has a project called The Tiger Project which includes increasing the number of tigers and saving their habitat. They use cameras and GPS technology to track movements of the tigers. The project is also engaging local communities to help them ensure that people protect tigers.
Raising awareness amongst the people neighboring the Sundarbans is also another important step. They are being taught how to live safely with tigers and not harm them.

The Royal Bengal Tiger is both important for Sundarbans also for Bangladesh’s entire environment. It’s not our only task to save tigers, but it’s a complete promise to the future generations. We can protect this beautiful species, and protect our country’s natural heritage, by enforcing laws, educating people and cooperating with the international community.
