The Dairy Game: A busy day at home [08-01-2025]

.
Hello there, fellow Steemians!
I hope you are all having a wonderful and productive day. It is such a pleasure to share another chapter of my daily life with this amazing community.

Today was one of those days that felt grounded, busy, and deeply connected to the simple routines that make up my world. From the early morning chores to the preparation of a fresh meal, every moment had its own story to tell. I’ve documented my journey through these photos, and I’d love to take you along for the ride!

MORNING

A Fresh Start: Morning Chores

when I waked up in the morning

My day began just as the sun was starting to peek over the horizon. There is something incredibly peaceful about the morning air before the rest of the world wakes up. My first task was to ensure the compound was clean.

In the photos where I am wearing my red shirt, you can see me hard at work sweeping the sandy ground. I used a traditional bunch of broomsticks, which is honestly the best way to get into all the nooks and crannies of the dirt. Sweeping isn't just a chore for me; it’s a way to clear my mind and start the day with a sense of order. You can see the dust and leaves being gathered, it’s satisfying to look back and see the clean lines left behind on the sand.

The Source of Life: Watering the Water leaf (vegetable)

After tidying up the environment, it was time to handle the water situation. We rely on a communal tap, and as you can see in the close-up shot of the water running into the black basin, the flow was steady and clear today.

It’s a bit of a workout, caring the water back and forth, but it’s a vital part of our daily rhythm. I carried the black basin to the Water leaf garden, were I also took a photo of the small basin sitting out among the water leafs plants in the yard. I watered the Water leaf because the need it the most now and besides, I like to keep the surroundings hydrated, and seeing those little pink flowers in the water leafs thriving reminds me that even in a dry environment, life finds a way to bloom if you give it a little care.

Crafting and Ingenuity

Later in the morning, I shifted gears to do some maintenance work. You’ll notice a photo where I am using a green lighter near some black mesh material. This might look a bit unusual, but it’s actually a clever way to seal the edges of the synthetic netting to prevent it from fraying.

By carefully applying a small flame, the fibers melt and bond together. It requires a steady hand and a lot of patience, but it’s a great example of how we use simple tools to fix and create things we need around the house. It’s all about being resourceful!

AFTERNOON

From Field to Plate: Preparing Lunch

By midday, my stomach was definitely starting to growl, so I headed into the kitchen area. I wanted something fresh and nutritious. I started by sorting through a large tray of fresh green leaves (ugha). These leaves are the heart of many of our best soups, rich in iron and full of flavor. Actually English is not my tongue, do unfortunately I didn't know the English name, but in Igbo (My language) is called ugha.

cooking at the kitchen

In the kitchen selfie, you can see the setup behind me: the pots, the kettle, and the electric stove ready to go. I took my time washing the vegetables and preparing the base for the soup. There is a real art to getting the seasoning just right!

My lunch

The Rice: I had a plate of beautifully cooked, fluffy rice. It’s a staple that never gets old, you may be wondering why I didn't eat the soup I cooked, yes I know.
I just prepared the soup ahead of time because there was power supply in that afternoon, so I decided to cook it at that time.

EVENING

The Final Result: A Meal Well Earned
Finally, it was time to eat! I shared a couple of photos of the food because, let’s be honest, that’s the best part of the day.

My dinner, garri and soup

The Soup and Garri: The highlight, however, was the bowl of fresh vegetable soup paired with a mound of yellow garri (ebba). The soup was steaming hot, and you could see the bits of fish and the vibrant green of the leaves I had just been prepping earlier 🤣.

CONCLUSION

Sitting down to eat a meal that you’ve had a hand in preparing from scratch is incredibly rewarding. It tasted even better knowing the effort that went into it.

Looking back at these photos, I realize how much I appreciate the "simple" life. Whether it’s sweeping the yard, fetching water, or cooking a meal, these are the moments that build character and keep us connected to our roots. It wasn't a day of grand adventures, but it was a day of growth, hard work, and good food.

Thank you so much for reading through my diary entry today. I hope it gave you a little insight into my world!

I Love U All ❣️🙏
