THE DIARY GAME :THE PULSE [08/06/2026]
The rain was hitting the corrugated roof of the substation so hard you could barely hear yourself think. Inside, the air was thick with the smell of burnt dust and cheap coffee. David leaned against the control desk, watching the needles on the old analog meters. They were twitching. Outside, the 15MVA transformer was letting out a low, heavy groan—a sound he’d heard a thousand times, but tonight it sounded strained, like it was dragging something too heavy. The metal door banged open, letting in a swirl of wet wind and Ibrahim, dripping wet and cursing under his breath. "Line three is gone," Ibrahim barked, shaking out his cap. "Lighting caught the jumper near the bypass. If the oil temperature keeps climbing like this, that transformer is going to pop." David didn't move. He kept his eyes on the panel. The standard move here was simple: hit the breaker, kill the feed to the whole district, and let thirty thousand people sleep in the dark until morning. It was safe. It was what the manual said to do. But the relays weren't clicking right. Usually, a storm surge makes the equipment dance erratically. This was different. Tap. Tap-tap. Hold. Tap. Tap-tap. Hold. "Ibrahim, look at the load drop," David said, nodding toward the digital logger. "I’m not looking at anything, David, pull the breaker before we lose the whole yard," Ibrahim said, stepping past him and reaching for the red handle. "Wait." David caught his arm. "Look at the intervals. It’s dropping exactly five megawatts every four seconds. That’s not a faulty line." A heavy crack of thunder shook the windows, momentarily dimming the fluorescent tubes overhead. In the sudden quiet that followed, the hum of the transformer outside spiked into a sharp, unnatural whine. On the logger screen, the scrolling numbers glitched. The technical data cleared out for a fraction of a second, leaving four letters sitting squarely in the middle of the green screen: E-X-I-T Then the alarm bell started ringing, loud and steady. Should I drop the part two?
