The diary game: [20/05/2026] Meter installation Day.
Meter Installation Day
Hello friends,
How are you doing today? It’s another beautiful evening to share my daily experience with you all.
Today was a bit different not stressful, just calm and fun.
My day started with my normal morning routine: loading my mom’s car with bags of sachet water so she could drop them off for her customers. After that, I had breakfast and went back to my room.
As my mom was about to leave for work, she told me that AEDC Abuja Electricity Distribution Company would be coming to install a meter for us. She said I should be on alert and let them in when they arrived. So I spent the day waiting, and around 2 PM, they came.

The officials installing the meter.
The meter is free to apply for. Some people sell it illegally, but this one was free, and my mom applied for it a long time ago. It finally arrived, and they installed it today. I prefer having a meter because it reduces electricity costs and helps you use power more wisely. I remember when we were on direct distribution, where we had to pay accumulated bills at the end of every month. It wasn’t funny. Sometimes it was ₦50,000, sometimes ₦100,000, even when the light wasn’t stable all month. They’d still charge us high. That period wasn’t fun at all.
A meter helps you regulate your usage and gives you full control. You can recharge any amount you want and use it accordingly, without extra bills or interference. If you don’t use much light, a small recharge can last you weeks. It saves cost, creates accountability, and brings peace of mind.
Apartments that share electricity bills often have issues. Some people have more gadgets that consume more power but are asked to contribute equally. That usually causes conflict because it favors those with heavy appliances, while those with less suffer.
Some landlords have wised up now. They build houses with separate meters to avoid drama. If you can’t afford to recharge your meter, you can stay in darkness without fear of intimidation or stress.
So today was all about installing the meter. We already have one for part of the house, and today we got an extra one for the other apartment.
What do you think about having your own meter? Does it really save cost and stress, or is it just another man-made problem? Also, tell me about your experience with splitting light bills with neighbors.
My day wasn’t stressful just the meter installation, chatting with friends and family, and now I’m ready to sleep again.
So we’ll call it a day, guys. I love you all.
Don’t forget to drink enough water and get enough rest. 💙
