SEC-S30W5: Spooky Bedtime Stories | The Forbidden Light of the Ancient Palace
We are all human. And in our lives, there are some memories that fade with time, but there are some events that are so ingrained in our minds that even now, just thinking about them makes me shudder. The most terrifying experience of my life happened when I was just in eighth grade. Because of my age, I had stubbornness in my blood and an indomitable curiosity to know the unknown, which is common in almost everyone at that age.
At the end of our village, there was a huge abandoned palace, which we had been seeing since childhood. Various mysteries and ghost stories were spread throughout the village around that many-year-old manor house. It was said that a certain room in that house could never be lit. Many people entered there with flashlights, and some with hurricanes, but as soon as they stepped inside the room, the light went out on its own. Why does this happen? No one could give a clear explanation for this.
Listening to these stories, our teenage minds were filled with curiosity rather than fear. We wondered, is this really possible? Or is it just a man-made story?
Then five or six of us friends decided that we would see the mystery of that dark room for ourselves. Whether the incident was true or false, we would share it with people. So then we all got ready to visit that old palace. As a preparation, we made a few big torches and poured a lot of kerosene oil in them so that they would not go out easily. Our plan was that we would light the light in that room anyway. And share the whole incident of this room with people.

The day was a gloomy Saturday evening. There was a moon in the sky, but it was occasionally covered by clouds. The atmosphere also seemed a bit uncomfortable, although we did not give it much importance at that time. Because at that time, our only intention was to share that ghostly place with people.
When the night was a little late, we quietly went to the main gate of the palace. We stopped for a moment when we heard the crackling sound of the dilapidated iron gate opening. As soon as we entered the palace, a strange, cold feeling spread throughout our bodies.
Nothing could be heard except the sound of the titmouse flapping its wings and the chirping of crickets. We slowly moved inside. The sound of our footsteps echoed off the walls and came back again and again.
Finally, we reached the front of the room. The door of the room was huge, old and heavy. It was a little scary to see. There was no way to deny it. But then, the thought of going back did not even occur to us.
We lit the torches. The fire was burning brightly. We bravely stepped inside the room.
And just then, the strange thing happened.
As soon as we crossed the threshold of the room, the torches suddenly went out.
There was no wind, no sound, yet the fire seemed to disappear in an instant. We tried again, lit a match and tried to light the torch, but despite repeated attempts, the fire would not burn.
The darkness around us felt somehow different. Not just darkness—it seemed to have a pressure, a heavy feeling.
At that moment, a strange murmuring sound came from a corner of the room. The sound was so unusual that our bodies suddenly went cold.
I still remember what I saw next clearly.
Suddenly, a reddish light emerged from the darkness. At first it was small, then it gradually grew larger. It looked like a ball of fire, but it did not look like a normal fire.
What it was—none of us understood at the time.
Suddenly, that fireball started moving towards us. We felt the heat, and fear gripped us so tightly that no words could come out of anyone's mouth.
Then, without thinking about anything else, we all ran away.
Stumbling in the dark, bumping into the walls, we somehow got out of that palace. No one dared to look back.
The real fear began after returning home.
The next morning, we all fell ill with a high fever. The fever was unusual. The body temperature was so high that even the medicine was not working.

The strange thing was, we were all talking about the same thing in the fever. About that ball of fire. That we had seen with our own eyes.
Our parents became worried. Doctors were called, treatment was started, but there was no immediate improvement. Later, on the advice of the village, an experienced poet was called. We were in a very bad condition for about a week. Even though we gradually recovered, the experience remained within us.
Many years have passed, but when I think about that night, my body still trembles. Although many things have been explained in the age of science, I still have not found a clear explanation for the events of that night.
Maybe we don't need to know the answers to everything.
That's why the gurus say that you don't have to know everything, and some things are better left unknown.
🎉 Congratulations!
