The Stink Bug

"When it felt threatened, this insect spewed out a foul-smelling liquid as a defensive mechanism. I believe that is where this insect got its name, and it truly lives up to its name with a strong unpleasant smell".
.

This 6-footed creature is universally identified as the Coridius chinensis.

Description

With a black or brown body shaped like a shield, the Coridius chinensis is a true member of the bug club of insects.
Technically, bugs are insects, but they must have a piercing and sucking mouthpart, a tube-like structure called a proboscis, and often have a hardened pair of forewings that, in some cases, resembles a shield.
A shield that protects its soft blue wings and delicate abdomen.

As you can see from the clip above, the stink bug is somewhat clumsy, with poor flying skills. So poor that it often bumps into things during flight.
With such poor ratings, they will only fly to avoid a predator or migrate to another food source.

Life cycle

Going through an incomplete metamorphosis, the stink bug starts hemimetabolism as an egg laid in a cluster. These eggs will later hatch into a small Nymph which really looks like a poorly developed adult. The nymph will moult after outgrowing its exoskeleton several times before it becomes an adult stink bug that can fly, mate and reproduce.

As you can see, besides that bad smell, the stink bug is harmless. But don't get too comfortable. Some people are allergic to secretions from the sting bug.

As a food and drug

Follow this link and you can buy well-packaged stink bugs on Amazon. Some are well seasoned and marinated. Originating from Asian countries. The stink bug is enjoyed by the Karanga people of Zimbabwe, and the Vhavenda and Mapulana people of Africa. They are also consumed in Mozambique, Malawi, and parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

My advice

Just make sure you know how to prepare it and get rid of its strong smell before you make any attempt to introduce this bug into your pot. As a rule-of-thumb, only eat what you know. But if you must eat, then let the natives prepare it for you.

Besides eating this bugs, Some people even believe that the stink bug has some aphrodisiac effects, which has led to its use as an active ingredient in concocting some traditional potions.

Reader's desecration is recommended. It is prudent to go for remedies that have been proven.
