SEC - S9W5: "The Internet, My Best Ally" By @oasiskp

It gives me great pleasure to have this opportunity associating with you all through this contest despite my tight schedule lately. I am participating in RECREATIVE STEEM Community's "Steemit Engagement Challenge, S9W5" competition with the topic: "The Internet, My Best Ally."

Right from 1998 when I came into computer field, I did not fully understand much about the concept of internet. As the years past by, I began to gather the pieces of those informations bit by bit till I seems to understand it better.

What activities do you do connected to the internet?

To start with, I worked as a computer operator near a cafe way back in 2008. Most of my customers then do send mails a lot since there was no android phone then. All I do was to process the document on my desktop computer and save it in the diskette which was the major removable storage device then, and the will take it to the cafe attendant to send the mail for them. At a point I handle a job that challenge my internet usability. It was then that I got much closer to the cafe attendant and asked him to show me how to send mails using the internet which he did.

Since then I began to be more frequent to the cafe to checked and send mails to two of my friends who were also using internet. So basically, my activities in connection to the internet was just to check and send mails.

Since what age did you start using the internet? How much do you use a day?

I start using the internet at the age of 19+. Like I said, much of my activities then was sending and checking mails. Then an hour charges for using the cafe was N200 (1.6 steem) - N300 (2.2 steem) with or without electricity.

Now my internet usage is almost 20 hours a day. I do subcribe weekly plan of N1,500 (10 steem) every week. Sometimes before the week runs out, I would have exhausted the gigabite and have to resubcribed, all depends on my activities that week especially when I am on zoom meetings.

Do you have internet in your home?, How much does the service cost? (tell us the price in local currency and Steem)

I do not have a fix internet connection at home due to the fact that once I left the home for office in the morning by 7.30am, I will not return till 8.00pm and sometimes late than that because of other places and activities I have to attend to. However, once I am home, I connect the laptop to the internect through the hotspot to my android phone. The cost of it is N1,500 (10 to 12 steem) depending on the steem price for that time.

Why do you think the internet can be harmful?

Whatsoever that is man made that have advantage must equally have its own face(s) of disadvantages. Accepted, internet have affected all facet of our lifes positively, but if not put into check, the harmful side of it might be very disastrous. I am saying this because our privacy on the internet seems to be no more. Our bio-data that we input into filling some site forms are openly expose to others. Sometimes we can easily get track in any location we are due to the fact that our online and phone location tracker is on, this can ofcouse be harmful to our safety.

Apart from the above, internet do have harmful effect to the young children who do have access to the internet at home and school, because they may have access to adult content which later on might have negative outcome while trying out what they saw.

Most times we heard of steemians who lost their liquid steem to hackers who have come in contaxt with the steem keys of such one that were store online.

What benefits has the internet brought to your?

The internet have brought much benefit to my life in various ways. To start with, the internet help me to keep intouch every now and then with my love ones who are residing in other places far from mine. We communicate using zoom and talk while seeing each other. It has also been of great benefit to me in terms of purchasing items. I do not necessary go the the mall to pick items, I sit at the comfort of my home and office to order these items using their online mall app., and those items will be delivered to my door step.
I am also benefitting frim the internet in terms of my finances. The steemit platform needs internect to get post uploaded and when this post are assess and upvoted, it increase my financial worth at the end of the day. I have also benefitted by way of getting my educational materials and e-books for my personal study without neccesary going for classes. So I give a thumbs up to internet for that.
