In the south of Germany there are many vineyards, many wine-growing areas. "We" have very good, exquisite wine. The area that @weisser-rabe describes is in the south of Germany.
I come from the far north in Germany. There are no vineyards there (honestly, not even mountains...). In my comment I said that it took me about 40 years to see a vineyard "live".... ;-)
