Saarland 1

Als weitgereiste "Zigeunerin" und Kosmopolitin, für die ich mich halte, hat man manchmal das Gefühl, man kennt die ganze Welt. Natürlich weiß jeder, daß da immer Ecken auf der Wunschliste bleiben, die man vielleicht erst später sehen wird oder auch nie. Selbst unerfüllte Wünsche können ja beflügeln ;-)) Diese weißen Flecken auf meiner persönlichen Reise-Landkarte habe ich und hege ich als meine Sehnsuchtsorte...

Das Saarland gehörte nun allerdings nie dazu ;-)) Als ich mich vor über vier Jahren in jemanden verliebte, der aus dem Saarland stammt (oder wie er es hier selbst an prominenter Stelle liebevoll umschrieb: aus USA, dem Unteren Südwestdeutschen Abschnitt ;-)) , war es nur eine Frage der Zeit, bis ein Familienbesuch auf der Agenda landete. Bei den üblichen Überlegungen - wann, wie, wie lange... - wurde mir bewußt, daß ich noch niemals dort war. Im Saarland. Alle anderen Bundesländer hatte ich wie selbstverständlich und fast zwangsläufig bereist. Das gab mir zu denken...

Versprochen wurde mir ein Auenland. Und zwar sowohl von der Anmutung der Landschaft her als auch in Anlehnung an das Land der Hobbits im "Herrn der Ringe", wo eben alles etwas kleiner und ziemlich niedlich ist. Bekommen habe ich: genau das!

Es ist wirklich schön dort. Es gibt alles, was ich so zum Wohlfühlen brauche - Wald, Seen, hügeliges Gelände, kleine Orte mittendrin. Die allerdings nicht ganz so großzügig und weitläufig verteilt auf der recht knappen Fläche des kleinsten deutschen Bundeslandes herumliegen. Also arg zersiedelt, was meine sonst sehr guten Eindrücke etwas schmälert. Abgesehen davon habe ich tolle Flecken zu sehen bekommen, mit denen ich wirklich nicht gerechnet hatte.

Seitdem sind wir natürlich noch öfter dort unten gewesen und jedes Mal ergeben sich neue Blickwinkel und kleine Highlights. Bei nächsten Besuch haben wir vielleicht das Glück, das Ganze im Schnee zu erleben - ganz neue Perspektive! Vorfreu'!

As a well-travelled "gypsy" and cosmopolitan, which I consider myself to be, one sometimes has the feeling that one knows the whole world. Of course, everyone knows that there are always corners on the wish list that you may only see later, or never. Even unfulfilled wishes can inspire ;-)) I have these white spots on my personal travel map and I cherish them as my places of longing...

But the Saarland has never been one of them ;-)) When I fell in love over four years ago with someone who comes from the Saarland (or as he himself lovingly described it here in a prominent place: from the USA, the Under Southwest-German Area ;-)) it was only a matter of time before a family visit ended up on the agenda. During the usual considerations - when, how, how long.... - I realised that I had never been there. In the Saarland. I had travelled to all the other federal states as a matter of course and almost inevitably. That made me think...

I was promised a land of meadows. Both in terms of the appearance of the landscape and in reference to the land of the hobbits in "Lord of the Rings", where everything is a bit smaller and rather cute. That's exactly what I got!

It is really beautiful there.There is everything I need to feel good - forests, lakes, hilly terrain, small towns in the middle. However, they are not quite as generously and widely spread out over the rather small area of Germany's smallest federal state. So it's very sprawling, which detracts somewhat from my otherwise very good impressions. Apart from that, I got to see some great spots that I really hadn't expected.

Since then, of course, we've been down there a few more times, and each time there are new aspects and little highlights. On our next visit we might be lucky enough to experience the whole thing in the snow - a whole new perspective! Looking forward!
