SC-S31/W1-Movie Magic | Movie About Choices (Titanic)
Titanic directed by James Cameron is one of the movies that have effectively managed to discuss the decision and consequences of decisions. This film is universally recognized as having a tragic narrative, although in addition to the sinking ship, there is a deeper meaning of choices, love, courage and sacrifice.
After viewing the film, I understood that it is not merely about what has happened, but about the choices that have resulted in such situations and the ways they influenced the lives of the characters.
The one choice in the film which altered the entire situation was when Rose DeWitt Bukater did not leap off the ship. At that time, she was emotionally shattered. She was living in a life that she did not want, dating someone she did not love, and was enslaved by family and social expectations.
At the brink of the ship she was prepared to kill herself. However, this all changed when she encountered Jack Dawson who talked to her with sincerity and goodwill, persuading her to move aside. This single choice of life completely transformed her life. It led to her experiencing freedom, love, and a new perspective about life.
Had Rose made good the decision to jump, the whole story would have been over. There would have been no relation with Jack, no development of her personality and no change. This demonstrates how one decision, even during a moment of weakness, can either terminate or lead to another and something meaningful.
Given the position of Rose, I would have felt no better than I was, most likely, confused and overwhelmed. In life, there are situations that we are trapped in and this is especially true when we are trying to live to the expectations that are not ours. Nevertheless, I think I would attempt to approach things in a different way.
Rather than having that breaking point, I would attempt to speak up earlier how I feel. I would also turn to the assistance of a person that I can trust or to release my frustrations somehow. Rose had locked up too much too long, and it was driving her to the limit. I believe that when we reveal our struggles, it may sometimes help us to avoid making dangerous decisions.
Simultaneously, I can comprehend her reasons behind behaving in such a manner. Our minds can be clouded with fear, pressure, and loneliness. We are not necessarily making the best decisions in such moments. That is why I do not judge her so sternly. Rather, I view her as a human being, in pain, and seeking a means of escape.
I found the decisions of the characters in this film correct and incorrect at the same time. Rose choosing to live was definitely the right decision. It demonstrated bravery and provided her with the chance to find out who she was indeed.
A second choice that was correct to her was when she decided subsequently to escape her possessive fiancé and live independently. Such a choice demonstrated development and autonomy.
But there were wrong or painful choices, too. As an example, the fact that the ship crew did not take the iceberg warnings seriously, resulted in the disaster. Although this was not an emotional choice of one character (as the one of Rose), it nevertheless demonstrates how choices, particularly reckless ones, have tragic outcomes.
One of the most powerful and emotional decisions in the movie was made by Jack. When the ship went down, and they were in the frozen water, Jack would not allow Rose to get on the floating door with him in the water.
He was aware that it could only sustain one individual and he sacrificed it without a second thought. This was both a heart-wrenching yet a highly significant decision. It demonstrated selfless love- to sacrifice life to that of another.
To me, it was the right decision Jack made though it was painful. It made me understand that not all the decisions are easy but best. They can be accompanied by loss and sacrifice, but they have profound meaning and impact. His choice meant that Rose would survive and keep his memory with her.
Having seen Titanic, I also thought of my life. It taught me that all my decisions, no matter how minor, can alter my future. We may not be able to see the consequences at times, but they are present.
It also made me learn the value of making a choice in favor of courage instead of fear. Had Rose given fear the power to rule her, she would not have got a chance to experience love and freedom.
To sum it up, Titanic is not simply a love or tragic film but an effective lesson on the importance of making decisions and their impact. The choices undertaken by the characters, particularly Rose and Jack demonstrate to us that life is defined by the routes taken.
I learned that when things are the toughest, it is possible to decide to continue, and it can turn out to be beautiful. We are what we choose, and we should choose wisely, as a single decision can make a huge difference.

Titanic is not just a love/romance movie for me. Rose lives. How about the one decision that took lives. And mind you Titanic is a real life story and there are more deeper lessons it gave than just Jack/rose which was just a part added in the movie to make it catch the audience attention.
Good entry....well done!
