In your own understanding, define who an ingrate is.

An ingrate is someone who is not appreciative of the kind gestures that have been shown towards him or her. An ingrate does not show gratitude in the face of a seemingly help or assistance given to them.

An ingrate is an enrolled person and by the reason of their entitlement mentality, they feel that people actually owes them and when those people do things for them that should make them appreciate the person or show gratitude, they take it for granted.

Have you ever dealt with one in the past? if yes, kindly share your experience.

I have had to deal with several people who are ungrateful or as a matter of fact have entitlement mentality. I had these two friends whom we went for a camp trip that would last for about two months. During the course of these trips, I went out of my way to make them comfortable as I was in the position to but at the end of the day, it was only one that was truly appreciative.

The other one didn’t as much show gratitude for the sacrifices I made for them. Infact he even back stabbed me. Saying all manner of rubbish to people about me. I felt so terrible when I had the things he said but I had to over look it.

What lessons did you learn from your experience with that ingrate?

The lesson I learnt is that no matter how good you are to people, some will still turn against you and not appreciate your kind gestures. Humans will always be humans. So I have learnt to start doing things for people because of God and not because of them. In that way, I will still have my reward because God is the one that pays us and not the people per se.

I have decided that I will not stop being good to people no matter how bad they treat me or how unappreciative they are. Infact I give people room to misbehave and I won’t be disappointed is they do. I have decided not to expect much from people so that when they finally show who they are, I won’t have any regrets.

Would you do good to others regardless in spite of your past experience with an ingrate?

Yes, of course. Like I said above, I will continue to do good to people because it’s in my nature to do so. As long as I am in a position to help people, I will continue helping and expect my rewards to come from God. God decides who and how he wants to reward good.

The problem is that sometimes we expect our reward to come from those same people that we helped but it doesn’t work that way. It’s only a few people that even remembers the good that was done to them to reward the doer of the good. Our reward comes from God, therefore we should always do good no matter what others do.
