SEC S15W4: "Broken Trust"
1. What do you think the word trust means?
Trust is the belief, in someone or something having faith that they're reliable, truthful and won't cause harm. It involves relying on their honesty and competence while also feeling at ease and assured by their actions or words. Trust fosters connections and instills feelings of safety and reassurance.
In todays world it has become challenging to discover individuals whom we can truly trust, among our companions as everyone possesses different motives and ambitions. Trust can easily be shattered, making it harder to find trustworthiness.
2. Presently in your country, do the citizens feel safe to trust one another? If not why? And if yes why?
Betrayal of trust seems to be quite common, with individuals breaking trust for their personal desires. This unfortunate situation can occur at any given moment.
Based on what I have noticed there seems to be a lack of trust among Ghanaians in general primarily because many people have shattered the faith others had placed in them for their personal benefits.
Another contributing factor, to the erosion of trust is the prevalence of deception. I'm witnessing an increasing number of people who're willing to deceive others for their own selfish gains disregarding the impact it may have on those who trusted them.
3. Have you had any experience where your trust in someone was broken? Or such a scenario from a Friend?
Yes I have definitely experienced betrayal before. It happened twice. It came from two people whom I had trusted wholeheartedly. Let me start by telling you about the incident. There was a friend of mine who asked me to lend him GHS 600 promising to pay it within two days. Trusting him completely I gave him the money. To this day he hasn't fulfilled his promise to repay me. Whats worse is that he has blocked my number and cut off all contact, on media.
The second betrayal is more painful because it involved my partner whom I loved deeply. She shattered my trust by cheating on me behind my back. It broke my heart. Filled me with regret, for getting involved with her.
4. Can you suggest ways to mend broken trust?
"Communication is key; Engage, in honest conversations to address challenges express emotions and foster mutual understanding. By speaking respectfully we can clarify misunderstandings. Build trust.
"Show empathy; Make an effort to understand others feelings and consider their perspectives. Being shows that you care about their worries and can help create an emotional connection."
