A Tiring But Worthwhile Day

So today there was no school, which meant a free day. But honestly, I didn't have much money on me for the weekend, so when my friend called and said he needed help with some work, I didn't think twice. He told me we'd be removing sand from a soak-away pit that had sunk in over time. Sounded simple enough at first.
It wasn't.

Once we got there, I could tell this was going to take a lot more effort than I thought. The pit had sunk pretty deep, and there was so much sand packed in that needed to come out before anything else could be done. We picked up our shovels and just got into it, digging and hauling sand out bucket after bucket.

The sun wasn't helping either. After maybe an hour, my back was already complaining, and my hands felt rough from gripping the shovel so much.

We'd stop every now and then to breathe, drink water, joke around a bit just to keep our spirits up, then go right back to digging.
By the end of it, I was wrecked. Tired doesn't even cover it. My whole body ached, I was covered in dust, and all I wanted was to sit down somewhere and not move.

But looking back, I don't regret it. It was hard work, but at least I had something to show for my day instead of just sitting at home broke. Sometimes you just gotta push through the tiring days to get a little something out of it.
