Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week 68: What is the best way to handle stress?
Stress don kill me; stress has finished me! These are popular sayings we hear people exclaim so many times. Everyone one knows about stress. Even the small kids will still say that they are stressed out. The word stress is indeed ubiquitous. But have we ever taken time to think about what stress really is and how it can be managed?
This contest will help me to explain more on this topic as well as useful tips on how to manage it.
But first let me start with what stress is.
Explain stress in your own word.
Stress can be defined as a state in which an individual will be mentally and emotionally exhausted or strained. This is usually caused by the pressure the individual faces or other adverse situations usually out of control of the person.
This is mostly seen with business owners, people who engage in activities that require much mental work, school children and any other activity that can drain a persons emotional and mental wellbeing.
What is the best way to handle stress?
Stress management is a subject that have generated attention over the years. Currently there are so called trained professional that can be consulted if one is suffering from stress. Once a person is suffering from a high level of stress, he will definitely require the assistance of these professionals, who will monitor the patients response to treatment.
However, other ways we can individually manage or handle stress is by :
° Engaging in physical exercise. Such engagement in aerobic activity can help in reduction of anxiety, depression and stress.
Just breathing in and out at the moment of tension can go along way to prevent being attacked by anxiety at the moment.
° Improving our eating habits and taking in health foods aids in improving oir overall wellbeing, injecting positive energy into oir body.
° Getting substantial quantity of sleep makes it difficult to be stressed out. When we sleep, our brain, mind and body tends to relax, giving the opportunity to address issues in a better way.
° Selfcontrol is very important in stress management. Sharing our concerns with others especially, the people we trust, can go a long way in helping us to see matters lightly which reduces our stress.
° We need to create time for ourselves. Such time can be used to relax, engage in leisure activities and trying to practice mind control on your own.
° Another way to manage stress is by learning about time management techniques, applying it to ourselves and setting personal goals that are achievable.
Have you been stressed up before ? What caused it and what did you do.
Stress is part of life, If I am to say. Whether rich or poor, white or black, good or bad, we all have experienced it at a point in time.
I had much stress when I lost my job. You know losing a job while on official absence from work is really devastating. The fact that you are not going back to work, perhaps expecting the last salary with nothing else to look forward to, thinking about the bills you will pay and other important responsibilities you are carrying, makes it harder.
The first step to helping myself was to come to terms that the job is gone. It is not coming back. That enabled me to focus on what I can do to survive. Secondly, I looked for practical things that I can do to earn a living. Engaging in those activities helped me to manage the situation a lot.
Getting enough sleep proved very helpful and and insightful. Staying around well-meaning friends really helped a lot too.
Do you think stress can solve this life challenges?
While it is confirmed that some people performs well under stress, that is only attributed to very few number of persons. However on a more general note, stress do not solve any life's difficulties but rather makes it increasingly more difficult.
Even for those who think it helps them to perform well, when it is prolonged, it becomes a serious problem for them like heart diseases and mental health issues. So stress onl excerbates the pressure.
What advise can you give to someone that is under stress right now.
What the person needs most is our listening ear. Be willing to hear them out without interrupting the person.
Never blame individual for any action taken suring the time he is stressed out. There is need to help the person know that no condition last forever, hence things can change for the better.
I can also offer practical support where possible, this can quickly erase the anxiety the stressed victim is experiencing. I can help the victim to isolate his problems, break it down to smaller portions, helping him see that the problem is not as big as he thinks.
I will let him him know that there is nothing bad with asking for help. When some situations prop up.
I will advise such person to engage in physical exercise, practice breathing in and out, Yoga can be of great help, to regain control of his mind. I will engage him a recreational activities which will help to take his mind off the problems causing stress for him.

Day to day activities has dealt seriously with many people and to survive, there's no how we will do without experiencing it, it is normally but what we need to do is to abide on the point you mentioned, staying around good friends who can help, having a enough sleep, exercise etc will help reduce stress and sometimes, listening to good music helps too.
