Greetings to the members of Steem4Nigeria community. I'm here to participate in growing up in rural or urban contest. I'll use the contest hint as guide to explore the topic.I hope you enjoy reading my content.
Differentiate between urban and rural areas, stating three major features. |
---|
Urban areas are cities and towns with large population, the urban areas are characterized by good road network, social amenities such as pipe borne water, public convince and other infrastructural facilities such as electricity, educational institutions /facilities, transportation, hospitals etc.
While rural areas are interior villages with lesser population. The rural areas is characterised by little or no social amenities such as pipe borne water, the water source of the villagers are streams and rivers.
The following are three features of the urban areas:
1.High population: population refers to the number of people inhabiting a particular place at a particular time. The urban area is characterised by large population. This is because a lot of people migrate from the rural to urban areas in search for greener pastures, since they are many employment opportunities in the cities , owing to the fact that companies and factories are are built in the urban areas.
- Availablity of social amenities: there are many and well maintained social amenities in the urban areas. These social amenities include: pipe borne water, public convince, electricity, good road network, transportation, hospital, recreational facilities, parks, educational facilities etc.
3.occupation: people in the urban areas work in offices, factories, sports stadium, government houses etc. Mostly white collar Jobs are available in the cities
Three features of the rural areas are:
- Low population:the number of people living in the rural areas is low . Not many people live in the villages due to rural to urban migration.people in the villages are few and know another very well.they are also not many houses in the rural areas.
2.lack of social amenities: there are no social amenities in the rural areas not even pipe borne water people in the villages drink, cook, bathe, wash and clean with water from the stream or river. There are no roads, electricity, hospital, school nor industries.
- Occupation: people in the rural areas are mostly farmers, ranchers and traders. There are no companies, industries or factories in the rural areas so there are no employment opportunities.
Which area did you grow up and why? |
---|
I grew up in a rural area. I was born in boki local government in Cross River state. they are many villages with funny names like Russia , London barbwire etc. There was no electricity not pipe borne water we got water from a stream called 'dijuang' in boki language. Later my family moved to my dad's village when I was still a very little girl. I did my primary education in a local primary school in a neighboring village. Life in the rural area is Serene and peaceful. People sleep early in the villages.people in the villages eat fresh food since they're mostly farmers, they enjoy their farm produce.
If you were told to go to the area you didn't grow up from, will you? |

Well I have also experienced living in the urban area. I travelled to Lagos which is the most populous city in Nigeria.and I did my secondary education there. think I enjoy living by the country side better than in the city. I realise I do not fancy congested environments plus the buzzling hazzling of city life
I prefer a Serene environment, with less people and fresh air. City life is suffocating if you ask me.
So no I prefer rural to urban areas. And I would love to live in a cozy house, surrounded by trees and shrubs and sweet smelling flowers,a river or stream or spring. In a near urban rural area in the future.
What things are there in the area you grew up from that aren't in the other? |
---|
There are streams, trees, mountains, fresh food and fruits . Close knit family and community. These are things rural dwellers enjoy which the urban dwellers do not.
