Watch a movie that speaks about love beyond romance focusing on friendship, family and sacrifice then respond to the following Questions;
I watched movie "The Intern" as soon as it got released in Canberra in the first week of October 2015 because I knew about it and was eager to watch it as it was close to my profession. The hero was older than me though, but I could relate with his mentality as it matched my own philosophy. I am sure it fits your theme of the week.
I immediately recalled this movie, its friendship concept, mutual respect, and emotional support rather than romance between the lead roles. This film is all about how an aged person found a purpose to show his love and affection at an online fashion business run by a young lady Jules Ostin.

What type of love was most powerful in the movie?
I thought, when Ben, the 70‑YO widower joined as a senior intern at this online fashion business house he soon formed a close, almost father‑daughter bond with the young CEO of this company. This film shows a family style care, emotional support and kind of sacrifice in both characters looking for each other’s well‑being and care.
"The Intern" movie is about friendship, respect, and emotional support minus the typical romance which would spoil the basic theme of this movie. This film basically shows how an old person, finds a purpose as an intern to help Jules Ostin the owner of this company.
Incidentally, Ben was a widower and the lady was not happy with her married life so giving this movie another angle was possible but they kept it a pure friendship story. The basic theme of this movie says it all that love, care, and family can be built through care, wisdom, and everyday acts of kindness, never mind the blood relations, physical attraction or romantic partnership.
Do you think the love conveyed through this movie is realistic today? And why?
I have couple of example to prove my point, staring with love, care, and family can be built through work, wisdom, and everyday acts of kindness, never fail you but always supersede romantic partnerships.
For instance, a special early moment is when Ben, an old‑fashioned person, arrives at the big advertising office and is treated at first as a novelty or what you call, something out of the world with his style, integrity, and gestures. For instance the way he organized Jules’s desk, that made him a favorite, emotional and loved person in the company.

I give you another example that standout is that “handkerchief moment,” where Ben offers his handkerchief and gives it via another character explaining that this one is, “for women’s tears.”
As I said earlier Jules was not having a happy married life and was almost at the verge of giving up by stepping down as CEO. She was suffering from mental pressure by her husband Matt’s infidelity, and ready to considers sacrificing her career and self‑respect for the sake of her family.
The entry of Ben urging her in a friendly manner to think about what she truly wanted, not what others expect. That was one of the keys which showed his care and affection for the lady. I felt, this could take a different angle but then I would not be writing my review for this movie, because Ben kept his behavior full of pure friendship beyond any romantic angle.

Now I come to the final scene when Jules decides to stay as CEO while also working on her marriage on her own terms, and then she joined Ben in the park as he practised tai chi. Ben always acted silent but, warm moments of mutual respect and friendship even when he was in a park and not in his office.
This made my day, as it proved quiet ending underlining the film’s message is love and family which can be found in mentorship, loyalty, and everyday sacrifice, not just in romance.
Finally, Ben convinced Jules to keep leading her company as it was the only way she lead her personal life in a satisfactory style. That's what is true love that cares for others without looking into their own selfish interests. Jules then joins Ben's tai chi class that further symbolizes a lasting friendship built on mutual support and care, for me that's true love.
What did the movie teach you about love?
You see it's a common scenario these days and it happens with Ben also when he discovered that Jules’s husband was having an affair, and Ben encouraged her not to sacrifice her career and self‑respect for a failing marriage but be strong and keep herself together. He could have taken advantage but he stuck to ethics.

I believe "The Intern" is a positive movie, heartwarming and of course its comic tone makes it even more charming. I must say the chemistry between the two even if the plot seems predictable at times but yet feels good.
I enjoyed watching Robert De Niro as Ben and Anne Hathaway as Jules because they looked perfect and natural and showed the value of affection between them which was not romantic but they talked and felt like as if they had a warm and lovely relation between them.

Finally, "The Intern" teach that love is patient, respectful, and supportive, not controlling even if not perfect. Most of it, it matches my own beliefs that relations grow through honesty, friendship, and sometimes with a little compromise by choosing each other even during hard times. Physical relation is not the core of love but it has a wider scope.

Seems like an interesting movie! Good selection.
For the question asked What type of love was most powerful in the movie? You have not responded as expected, although you have given a response.
Do you think the love conveyed through this movie is realistic today? And why?
You didn't respond specifically if it's a yes or a no and why what you did was to give examples of people who showed love in the movie.
You are free to make your decision but I did what I could to the best of my ability! Thanks for your evaluation and remark.
