Thanks to the internet or information and technology, we can do many delicate and complex tasks very easily. This is undoubtedly a groundbreaking position for the Internet. As everything becomes easier thanks to the internet, our security risks are increasing day by day. Also, various kinds of rumors are being spread very quickly using the internet, due to which everything is being destroyed in an instant and people are facing great danger every day.

Account hacking :

• Personal information is being stolen by hacking Facebook or email.

Cyber bullying :

• Women and children are being psychologically traumatized by various forms of online harassment or abusive comments.

Financial Fraud :

• People are facing financial losses through the theft of mobile banking or credit card information.

With the widespread use of the internet in Bangladesh, digital security risks are increasing, making it easier for people to be deceived online. This problem is increasing day by day, yet we are unable to learn from it and are falling into new traps every day.

Steps can be taken

Incorporating cyber security into school and college textbooks:

Necessary steps can be taken for cyber security education from schools and colleges and if we want, we can make it mandatory. In this way, students of every school and college will be able to gain knowledge and protect themselves from this problem.

Create a mindset of verifying the truth:

You cannot trust something just by seeing it online, you must first verify its truth and you cannot just jump on any tempting advertisement and offer.

Proper application of the law :

We need to take the right legal steps to prevent cybercrime and provide support in this regard very quickly. Moreover, the people need to be informed about these related laws so that they can take the right decisions at the right time and save themselves from danger.

Why do you think this problem still exists despite many people noticing it?

The main reason why people do not see the problem even if it goes away is that Bengalis are very emotional and easily believe everything.

Modernity of technology:

Hackers are constantly using modern technology which the people of Bangladesh have never seen and their knowledge about it is very limited. As a result, they are easily falling into various online traps and losing everything.

The criminals are out of reach:

Those who commit such crimes always remain out of reach because we cannot easily identify them, so they use this opportunity to commit various types of crimes.

Uncontrolled emotions:

We Bengalis cannot keep our emotions under control very much, so we easily believe any information and react quickly accordingly, as a result of which various kinds of rumors spread very easily and the society falls into unrest.

In your opinion, what is the most misunderstood part of this problem?

In my opinion, the biggest misconception is, I am an ordinary person, what is the benefit of hacking me?
Everyone thinks that cyber attacks only happen to big leaders or celebrities or rich people. But in reality, ordinary people are more victims of it. As a result, they put their personal information and financial account information at risk. Moreover, people put many people's lives at risk by spreading misinformation.

If you could change one mindset related to this issue, what would it be?

If I could change one mindset, it would be to move away from blind faith and become skeptical. Before being tempted by something on the internet, one must ask oneself, is it really true? Or what is the source of this information? I think this one mindset change will reduce most cybercrimes in our country. Before anything else, one must develop the habit and mindset of checking and choosing. One must control one's own people and practice a healthy mindset and protect oneself from all these dangers.

Cyber hacking or online crime has become a complex problem in Bangladesh, but it is a difficult reality in our current social context. In this era of technology, just as all our activities are becoming easier through online, our security systems are also under threat. We must remember that we have to provide our own security and we cannot give anyone else the opportunity to steal my information or to do cyberbullying.
We will always use strong passwords on our phones and keep authentication turned on, and we will try to verify the authenticity of any tempting offer without jumping on it. We also need to learn about information technology and be aware of its security systems.
If we can be aware, then no one can harm us and we can gradually move forward with information technology.
