Choose a global or local problem (education, waste, traffic, unemployment, loneliness, etc.).

To me the issue of unemployment is critical not only to the local population but also to the global economy because, it concerns young individuals and low-income families. And the easiest and most practical way out is to develop community skills sharing and apprenticeship programs. Small business owners, tailors, mechanics, local artisans and farmers may be persuaded to accept an apprentice to serve a stipulated term of six months or a year.

The trainees also acquire marketable skills that are practical and are provided with a small stipend during this period which is facilitated by the local government, cooperatives or community funds. The strategy is not based on high technology and utilizes the existing human resources. It does assist the youth in acquiring work experience, creates self-reliance, and supports local businesses. In the long-term, a lot of apprentices will have the capacity to establish their small businesses, and a sustainable reduction of unemployment will occur.

Who would benefit most from this solution?

The unemployed and underemployed young people, in particular, recent graduates and school leavers who do not have job-ready competencies, are the groups that would gain the most with this solution. The informal workers would receive access to stable revenue, and women and disabled persons would receive inclusive hiring, flexible work opportunities and selective assistance. It would benefit small and medium enterprises through increased pool of skilled labor, reduced costs of recruitment and an increase in productive power. There would be less dependency, increased household incomes, and a more stable society among communities that experience poverty.

This would assist government in cutting down welfare spending, raising taxations and expanding the economy. The final lot of beneficiaries would be the private sector and investors who would have a more competitive workforce, innovation and higher consumer demand which in a virtuous cycle would lead to better long-term skills development and sustainable livelihood of the families, regions and future generation alike.

What is the possible challenges or limitations do you think your idea might face?

There are a number of obstacles and restrictions that my plan of decreasing unemployment may encounter. To begin with, large scale training and job creation initiatives can be restricted by the constraints of funds. Second, unfavorable infrastructure and unstable power supply can deter engagement of the private sector. Third, skills mismatch can be maintained in case training fails to meet the needs of the labor market. Corruption and the presence of weak institutions would redirect resources to the wrong people.

Moreover, the opposition to the change by the employer or the workers can slow down the new systems or technology adoption. Investment and hiring can also be diminished by economic turmoil, inflation or even by security concerns. Lastly, due to less data and control, it might be challenging to gauge impact, revise policies, and sustainability in the long term. Long term confidence may be lost by political inconsistency and policy reversals.

Thanks for reading my post I'm inviting @pea07, @abdullahw2 and @m-fdo to participate.
