My Neighborhood Watch #134 - Reporting Events Around us

in Steem4Nigeria2 days ago

Another neighborhood watch contest by @xkool24, a proof of consistency and instilling in Steemians to take responsibility for watching over their area. Ever since I participated in this contest, I have been taking details of my environment. This time I went to the market with my wife, while she was buying, I was observing until I found what I would write about as an eye-saw. Read down and give your contribution.

AT THE FAMOUS ITAM MARKET IN UYO

Urua Itam as it is known for (Itam market) is sold every day but has the “d’ day” where its population triples. On the main market day, apart from the congestion of vehicles on the road, human beings, goods are also looking for spaces. On the big day of the market, I went with my wife to help her. I have been in Uyo for over 12 years but only entered the market once since 2020. The market is always crowded from the roadside to the inside.

Arriving The Market

Even when we had reached the market, it took us over 15 minutes to get to the point we wanted to stop due to holdups, buses, and keke struggling to find their way out. While I was inside keke, I started observing market life. What do I mean by market life? These are people fighting to make sales, calling you from left and right to buy from them, calling you customers even when you've not bought or had any transaction with them. Trying to convince you above your imagination that you will like what they are selling, or telling you that the price that they are asking you to buy is not sold anywhere better or lower than that, or they force you to accept that you can't get it anywhere, "in fact, if you see it let me know” This is what I call the market life. It became my experience at Itam market although at some instances they were talking to my wife.

SELLING AROUND REFUSE DUMP

The shocker was seeing them selling around the refuse dump, where almost the whole area dumped their waste there and people were still buying with the smelly stuff. I was completely cut off and I decided not to enter the market again, and had to wait for her across the road immediately I saw her friend who also came to the market.

This Place Smelled Bad

How can people continue to make sales and people are buying around the refuse dump? It's irritating, smelling, abnormal, and a whole lot. I couldn't withstood the smells but the market women and those buying from made me thought if they had sold of their sense od smell too 🤔.

Where people sell and buy to go and eat should have healthy priority. The saying that “dirty no dey kill Africa” will continue to make us undermine cleanliness. Some of the sicknesses people are suffering from, they might have bought with their money.

Seeing my wife's friend and other photos of the market

My greatest pain was the buns and fruits sold around this place. Who will wash buns before eating? The government or those collecting revenues from the market women must ensure the cleanliness of the market, at least packing waste everyday will help and reduce the mess I saw there.

Keep Watch on your Hood

I invite @bossj23, @@@annydee01 @dedejur to participate in this contest.

Thanks for sharing your post with us. On point. But wait? Why is it that markets where food and consumables are sold are the dirtiest of all places?
