One of the things that most people fail to understand about leadership is that leadership is not about the leader pleasing everyone. Instead, leadership is about the leader choosing what truly matters for his or her people and having the courage to act.

This is the main reason I so much admired the US President Donald Trump; he knows what truly matters for his people, and he dares to act. Having said all of this, if I were in charge of my country or community leadership, this is how I would respond to issues;

If you were given full authority for one year in your community or country, what is the first issue you would address?

If I were given full authority for one year in my community or country, my first issue would be to address youth unemployment and skills development. In Nigeria, a large percentage of young Nigerians are willing to work but lack either the opportunities or the skills needed to secure sustainable employment, which, due to the high rate of unemployment, leads to a lot of crimes happening.

Why did you choose this issue over others?

We all know how important it is for the youth of a country to be gainfully employed and the negative impact of it in a country when the youth are not gainfully employed.

Having said that, I chose to address this issue of unemployment over others because it is the root of many of the problems, like poverty, crime, insecurity, social unrest, drug abuse, stealing, and a lot more happening in the country.

Also, I chose it because when young people are productive, families become stable, communities grow safer, and the economy of the country strengthens, things become better. I believe that by addressing youth unemployment, I would be able to create a ripple effect that positively impacts education, security, and national development in my country.

What is that one difficult decision you would have to make?

Being a leader isn't an easy task because a lot of people would want you to do something that would only benefit them, especially those who are your cabinet members, but what makes someone a great leader is when the person makes a difficult decision.

To this, my most difficult decision would be redirecting funds from certain political privileges and non-essential government spending into large-scale entrepreneurship grants, public-private job creation programs,s, and vocational training. By doing this, I am cutting benefits that some powerful individuals are accustomed to in my government.

How would you explain this decision to people who disagree with you?

I know a lot of people would disagree with me for my decision, but this is how I would make them understand. I would explain to them that leadership demands sacrifice from the top before asking it from the people.

Additionally, I would inform them that investing in young people is not an expense, but a long-term investment in economic growth and national stability. I would also let them know that the decision would reduce crime, increase productivity, and make our economy stronger, serving everyone in the country in the long run.
