Hello friends, I trust you're well, welcome to my blog. Today I want to share my thoughts on this contest topic, of course I found it quite interesting hence the reason for my participation. Let's get right into it guys!

Briefly explain this topic self control to a layman.

I love the fact that I've been asked to explain what "self Control" means in a layman's language. To me, self control mean the ability to control oneself in whatever situation one finds him or herself. Self control is actually a disciplinary measure that one is bound to. It can also help people check their excesses.

Self control can be expressed in areas such as sleeping, eating, conversing, dressing, sex life, spendings and so on. It's self control that helps check these habit no matter how harmless they sound. As a matter of fact, what seem harmless can become very harmful when self control is absent.

I think I've been able to explain what the concept means with brief explanation above. Let's move to the next section.

How do you know someone that has self control ?

---

Someone who has self control is temperate and modest in all things. Such person would always know where to draw the line as touching his actions and reactions. It's actually not easy to master this but consistency and the help of God would always make mastering it possible.

I think I must add that it not always easy to control one's self all the time because sometimes your desires are always on the line and you're always in between fulfilling that wish or desire of yours or refraining because you feel it expedient to. This is one of the major challenges someone who has self control would away face.

Anyone who can check him or herself at all times regardless of his or her emotional attachment or feeling at every situation can be said to have self control. People are used to others checking their excesses but not used to them checking themselves to curb excesses this is why self control is a big deal for an average man.

Is self control an inborn behavior or it's learned? Support your answers with facts.

I do not think anyone was born with it, one would have to develop it over time. Having self control takes conscious effort and discipline to attain and I must add that it would take the help of God. There are times we lose it as humans, because humans would always be humans at some point but when God is involved it is always a different story entirely.

So I would say anyone you see today that possesses such ability has developed him or herself along that line. He could have learnt self-control the hard way, he or she might have had experience of how they acted impatiently, judged unfairly, uttered unguided speech and the likes.

For many, it was after the realisation of what was done that gave birth to that quality called self control that they now possess.

How far can you control yourself in the face of temptation and challenges?

---

Personally, I would say God has been helping me, to an extent, I would say I've been doing averagely fine when it comes to this subject and I hope to improve. It's not a state that one attains suddenly, it would take time, conscious effort and God to help one attains that state in it fullness.

One thing I know is that when your strength and all seems to be failing you, rely on God to help you. As touching challenges, I always refuse to allow it overwhelm me, it's hard but when I know it beyond me, I find rest in God who is higher than I and when it comes to temptation, I try as much as possible to avoid places and situations that make me compromise my value and belief system.

When I'm faced with one, I act in line with my faith and belief system. Not by my strength but by the strength of Him whom I live to please daily. Alright, this will be all for this contest, I hope you found my entry interesting. I would definitely be looking forward to yours.
