|SLC-S29/W4-“Thinking and Ideas!| Rethinking the Normal!”
💐In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful💐
Hi everyone, especially to our wonderful moderators and fellow Steemians! |
|---|
Friends thanks to the prayers of my lovely parents and the blessings of Allah. I am completely fine. I hope that you are all well too. May Allah Almighty keep you all smiling and happy. And always be with your family members. May Allah Almighty make every day of yours a day full of 😊 happiness for you. Today I am participating in this contest that @ninapenda ma'am has organized. So let's get started.
Name one practice, belief, or system that people accept as normal but should be questioned. |
|---|
In our country Pakistan what people generally accept as normal in terms of traffic is not following driving rules and ignoring the rules of the road. Most people think that if they violate signals keep changing lanes. Or drive faster than the speed limit nothing will happen. This has become a cultural and social habit that people accept as normal and do not question it. Children are mainly taught traffic rules in school or college. But in real life most people violate the rules out of convenience or haste. People on the road often honk their horns park in other people's spaces or ignore pedestrians. All these behaviors have become a norm that is rarely questioned. Parents and elders themselves often violate the rules. So young drivers think that all this is normal and that they should do the same. This behavior increases accidents traffic jams and daily losses but people accept it as normal. The question arises. what kind of improvement can come if we challenge this system and strictly follow the rules? This is why this norm has taken root in society so far and is not discussed much at the public level.
Why do you think people rarely challenge it? |
|---|
People rarely challenge this traffic norm. Because it is deeply rooted in social behavior and cultural thinking. Parents elders and everyday people themselves violate the rules. So young drivers believe that it is not necessary to follow the rules. Moreover citizens perceive limited legal enforcement on the roads. Often there is limited police presence or fines can be easily paid. Which makes people believe that the risk of violating the law is low. In addition the social mindset is that “everyone does it why shouldn’t I?” Because of this attitude no one dares to fully obey the rules of the road. Challenging traffic rules is also difficult. Because if one person obeys and others violate it can be a waste of time and energy. In addition some people believe that traffic rules only exist on paper in practical life everyone has their own will. All these factors combine to create in people’s minds. The idea that challenging or following the rules is not very important. And this is why this norm is rarely questioned in public.
What could improve if this “normal” way changed? |
|---|
If people abandon this routine and fully obey traffic rules there will be many positive effects.
- First the number of accidents will decrease significantly. Which will help protect human lives.
- Speed limits and obeying signals will maintain order on the road and reduce the severity of traffic jams.
- In addition improved traffic flow will save time and people will be able to reach their destinations faster.
- There will also be improvements in terms of the environment. As unnecessary stops and fuel waste due to unbalanced vehicle speeds will be reduced. And air pollution will be reduced.
- Discipline and legal awareness will also increase in society. People will prioritize the safety of others and respect each other's responsibilities.
- If children and young people are taught the rules of the road from an early age in the education system. This behavior may become common in the future.
- In addition citizens will be more careful on the road pedestrians and cyclists will be safe. And guys emergency vehicles will be able to take their path without hindrance.
Overall this change will create more responsible citizens in society. And make the roads safer and more orderly.
What might be lost if it disappeared completely? |
|---|
If the system of traffic laws and restrictions were suddenly completely abolished many things would be lost.
- The first is the discipline that maintains civic behavior and road quality. Without rules roads would become completely unorganized leading to an increase in accidents traffic jams and public anger.
- People would lose their sense of responsibility for the safety of others. And a common standard in society would also disappear based on which driving ability or legal responsibility is assessed.
- In addition the performance of traffic police ambulances and other emergency services could be affected. Because the roads would be unorganized and people would be unable to give emergency passes or cooperate according to the rules.
As a result a dangerous environment would be created on the roads and normal civic life would be affected. Without this system not only would the risk to human lives increase. But social order would also be weakened.
Here is my post for today, which I have shared with all my friends. See you in the next post.
Thank you for being with me.

Thanks ma'am for your support 💕.
Hi @m-princess, welcome to thinking and ideas week 4
Just like my city in my country, Lagos city has overtime been known as a traffic based city. I mean there is no day in Lagos without traffic, even with the traffic light control, we still witness traffic.
It has been overlooked and seen as normal so everyone just adhere to that.
