The real life experience you shared is just funny. So because the first guy speaks out that's why he was accused of stealing?
It's funny so real because here in Lagos I have seen several occasions similar to that. The guys you said compost himself would have been the suspect because they will say: he composed himself because he doesn't want to be caught.
In my own opinion being silent is good when it come to something that might cause fight or trouble but when it come to defending yourself......if you don't speak up.... You'll find yourself were you'll later regret.
So before deciding either to speak or be silent, look at the situation, what might be the outcome, then you decide.
