Have you ever looked at a little baby challenging an adult and after all said and done, the baby wins the fight???
That’s an anomaly right?? Because in normal circumstances, it shouldn’t be..Well, that’s what my trip to Enugu can be likened to. We set off around past 7am as we had an early morning meeting by 10am and all things being equal, the journey lasts 2 hours ,30minutes, owing to the fact it was a private vehicle. So tell me why by past 1pm, I was still at the outskirts of Enugu state, tired, fatigued from hours of sitting on my bum and generally distraught, I’ll tell you why, - insecurity.
Walk with me.

I’d left the house some minutes past 7am. I and a couple of people were traveling to Enugu for a meeting slated for 10am that morning and the next day being Sunday. Once we’d picked up everyone for the journey, our journey officially started! First on our list was a set of people doing exercise.

My sister had brought her baby along and the boy being a child was jubilating up and down not aware of anything, but this wasn’t for long, before you know what, tears started pouring like an unchecked stream.

All efforts proved abortive, only food could solve this so there we went. Once his meal was eaten, calm returned!!😂😂A quick stop to see a relative and off we went.

Our journey continued smoothly as we sped past cars and vehicles until we entered Enugu state.
The first sign of trouble was the whispered instructions from the officer at the checkpoint to the car ahead of us alerting them. I didn’t think much of it as I enjoyed the scenic Mountain View of Enugu. All of a sudden, our driver halted sharply. In front of us, cars were turning back at full speed. We held on for a few minutes to understand the situation.
This few minutes would stretch to hours as we waited with bathed breaths, not knowing what was going on, on this federal road.
According to the news we got, a group of Fulani herdsmen had attacked a village, killed a person and an uproar had begun. Seeing no other way to get police or government attention, they had resorted to closing the only major highway they had in an effort to be heard. Sadly this is a very busy federal highway that is linked to many parts of the country.

As we got closer, we began to see the extent of the mob action. Soldiers had to be called in to teargas the area and bring a semblance of calm so commuters could pass through.
Finally after some hours, we made it to Enugu city and the first thing I went searching for was some cold mind numbing ice cream as my system had undergone a traumatic experience.

Here area few things i learnt on how to handle an insecurity upheaval
  1. Find a secure or relatively secure place to stay first: your head before the news, the news will eventually come out.

  2. Get as much grip on reliable information as you can and a possible means of escape.

  3. Do not panic: this is important as it allows your mind have clearer and more rational thoughts.

Have you encountered a situation like this before??, what helpful tips can you share to help someone??.
