SLC-S29/W1-“Thinking and Ideas!| If You Were in Charge!”

This is a very refreshing challenge that will spur people to sit with themselves and think on their ideals and I’m glad to have come across it. Let’s get right into it.

If you were given full authority for one year in your community or country, what is the first issue you would address?

The first issue I would address is insecurity. A country or community that is insecure is one that cannot thrive or have any major development. There’s this state my friends and I were speaking my about some days ago and I casually mentioned how that state would be the next big hub. My friends were quick to counter me whilst stating the number of foreign companies or investment/ job creation opportunities that have left that state owing to the issue of insecurity. This is a real life reference to how everything threatening insecurity is.

Why did you choose this issue over others

People thrive where there is peace and insecurity is the main thing that threatens peace. People can think better, come up with life changing ideas and implement them in a peaceful environment where they aren’t constantly checking their back for who is coming to unalive them or cart away their hard sweat earned goods and properties.
Foreign investors, job opportunities and relocation ( in terms of housing and living) will naturally be preferred in a place where there is less insecurity as opposed to a highly volatile environment.

What is that one difficult decision you would have to make?

It would be to cut down and prioritize people’s basic welfare needs over commodities of any sort. Things like security, food availability, affordable healthcare, road repairs, etc.

Commodities here could mean budget costs of whatever initiative I’d be bringing up to provide for the basic welfare of the people.
People are the core of any existing environment, be it the workspace, the home front, or the community at large and from observation, people go to and are attracted to places where they are taken care of and their welfare is top priority. It’s a basic human psychology.

How would you explain this decision to people who disagree with you?

There are bound to always be people who have contrary opinions and that’s not bad. I’d explain to them with a simple question;

“ If you needed emergency surgery to save your life and that surgery would need certain equipments to be available but the government decided it best to use the money allocated to get these equipments to foster foreign relations with other countries???
How would you feel knowing that you will need to stay alive first before you can enjoy the dividends of foreign relations???

Basic internal security and welfare of the people in a given country or community is the first and topmost priority of any nation, community or sovereign state. Any nation that fails at this, no matter how laudable other projects might be, have failed at their first assignment!!
