Greetings friends, hope everyone had a lovely weekend. Welcome to a new week of opportunities. I'm participating in a contest titled “Life in my city”.

So far this year, is there something new in your city you would like to share with us? Fuel increase, price of things, a protest, a robbery or any other gist.

Currently, if your in Nigeria , life for you goes with mix feelings and the regular increase in the cost of things. One of the striking changes that happened this year is the hike in fuel prices. A litre which was sold for #850 or #900 depending on your region is now being sold for #1500. Both business owners, motorists and individuals are all complaining.

Currently, there's a blackout in my area. Throughout yesterday there was no light after a very sunny day to cool down. So I decided to go to the closest fuel station to get some litres of fuel to power my generator. Stepping out of my compound, I withdrew 6,000 naira, hoping I would get a reasonable liter of fuel. When I arrived at the fuel station there was crowd because of the blackout. A lot of people came to purchase fuel for the night. When it got to my turn, I told the attendant to fill my gallon with 5000 naira worth of fuel. To my surprise, what I got was half of this blue gallon. Deep down within me, I was angry, but I didn't know how to express my anger, whether to the country or the fuel attendant.

Not until one man asked me how much fuel this was I told him. We all burst into laughter with some other people at the fuel station. A lot of people complained the same too. The change in the price was really fast and the funny thing is that everyone is adjusting to that price. My neighbor who runs generator all day now on it only at night. Alot is changing 😂😂😂.

Can you say you have made any progress so far this year? Tell us about it.

Yes.... I have made some progress just these few months of the year. When I am in my off time, usually 1 week, I spend a lot. But this year I have tried to reduce spending during this period and focus on important things that matter. Also, I have also learned to adjust and always find a way out of every situation because of complaining, blaming the country or whoever has never solved any issues. I have learnt to adapt and most importantly, plan in advance.

If you have an opportunity of making your city better what will you do?

If ever given the opportunity of making my city better, probably I would start with construction of good roads, because we are approaching the rainy season. We all know that this season does not look so well in some areas. Secondly, there would be a steady supply of electricity, in order to reduce the sounds of some noisy generators. There's this family that lives next compound close to mine. Anytime they put on their generator, the sound is something else. It gives concern, but they don't even care. Finally, making these changes would help in making life easier and more comfortable.

Let's say you are given a choice to decide to leave your city to another city better than your current one and would be sponsored or you are given a huge amount of money to stay back in your city, what will be your choice? And why?

If given such a choice, it is kind of tempting though, but I will carefully compare both alternatives.

My city might not be the best, but my job and other sources of income are in my current city and I wouldn't want to lose my job and businesses. I will choose to stay back in my city and invest in my ongoing business in my city, make a good profit and still have my job, family and friends around. Leaving to a new city requires adaptation, searching for a new job, and I'm not in for that.

Finally, life in my city might be a bit uncomfortable, but it has taught me how to adapt, survive, learn the importance of planning ahead and be resourceful. Regardless of the obstacles I face in my daily life, I still remain optimistic.
